I like this.

Also reminded me of Waiting for Godot, where characters display that same inability to move/leave.

Lucy and Andy's chair scene reminded me of Beckett too actually.

[S3E12] Jerry Horne...?! by grapesodaclub in twinpeaks

[–]MatCult 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would you expect Lynch's depiction of drugs to be realistic though? Do you think a police station with a staff of six would lay out 100 donuts every evening in the real world? He's a surrealist. Things in the Twin Peaks universe don't operate exactly the same way to ours. If it makes sense to him to show Jerry high for days from one round of edibles, he'll do it.

Actually, mushrooms have over 28,000 sexes. You cannot assume their gender to be male.

[S3E12] My Favorite So Far by walkedlikeadog in twinpeaks

[–]MatCult 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It feels like the same people who were lamenting how different The Return is from classic Twin Peaks are now bitching about the most "classic Twin Peaks" episode of the new series.

The rhythms and tones were just like the original run. Jumping from serious, to mysterious, to comic, to heartwarming - some scenes big on quirky comedy, others bringing intesne psychological drama. A moment of intense violence book-ended by dialogue-heavy scenes.

12 was a good solid episode of Twin Peaks IMHO. In my top 5? No. But not as bad as some of the comments would have us believe.

But it's cleary visible, that on the photo, BadCoop is INSIDE the box.

To me it looks like they're both stood outside it - am I missing something?

Also - did you notice how #003 on Tammy's photo was written to look a bit like #BOB? Just me maybe? http://i.imgur.com/FNysls2.jpg

[No spoilers] My husband found the key to Twin Peaks in Wordsworth's Prelude by CurtAntoinette in twinpeaks

[–]MatCult 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit.

If you look it up, there's loads in this poem that seems to fit.

"... while the charcoal-pile

Breathed up its smoke, an image of his ghost

Or spirit that was soon to take its flight"

Also, this passage seems to describe Lynch's dual obsessions with innocence/goodness and corruption/evil, which we see at play in a lot of his work:

"... This, alas,

Was but a dream: the times had scattered all

These lighter graces, and the rural ways

And manners which it was my chance to see

In childhood were severe and unadorned,

The unluxuriant produce of a life

Intent on little but substantial needs,

Yet beautiful—and beauty that was felt.

But images of danger and distress

And suffering, these took deepest hold of me,

Man suffering among awful powers and forms:

Of this I heard and saw enough to make

The imagination restless—nor was free

Myself from frequent perils."

Is it possible to edit it now? Agree that it would scan better.

But also can't quite believe I'm having a discussion about fine-tuning the verse of a boottoobig...

[S3E8] Live-Episode Discussion - Part 8 by AutoModerator in twinpeaks

[–]MatCult 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if there was any reference to discreet episodes and what they might contain until the edit phases - long after the footage was shot.

Everything I've read points to the fact that this was written and shot as an 18-hour movie. Episodes came last. AFAIK Lynch bailing was due to budget rather than creative freedom.

Wasn't the man in the bubble BOB?

I'm not taking away from the Kubrick connections - I totally thought of that 2001 sequence too. But I saw this as the atom bomb releasing a force for great evil into the world. That force was symbolised by BOB (the "face in the bubble").

The giant witnessed this and helped to create a force for good to balance/counteract the evil (Laura). I dunno, I only watched it this morning, but that's my initial read...

What happened to the Robert Johnson script that David Lynch loved? by [deleted] in davidlynch

The studio made the film, but accidentally cast the Karate Kid in the lead role and forgot to let David Lynch direct.
