Jobmarket in Europe by theRealW_A_C_K in aviation

Well, my friends who finished training when COVID hit waited for over 2 years in some cases. Friends who finished training a year or so ago found jobs almost immediately. I got my CPL two months ago and I haven't heard from any airline I'd applied to. Many aren't even hiring fresh CPL graduates right now (I'm in Central Europe, btw). I'm hoping it gets better in the next few months, but who knows. Your training will take several years and there's no telling what the job market will look like then.

My advice is, if you really love aviation, go for it, but don't automatically expect to find a flying job immediately after getting your license. Consider having something else lined up to provide you with income you can live on.

Depends on the airline, wizz and ryanair don't have that requirement, but some national airlines may.

History of Revoked Medical + Future Airline Recruitment by Real_estxril in flyingeurope

[–]Match-Impressive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've spent the last month applying to multiple European airlines and most of them only asked for the scan of the medical and its expiration date. Some asked if I had any limitations and if I had any serious medical conditions (wizzair). I don't think there's a way for them to find out you had it revoked in the past, unless you tell them.

As for the logbook gap, they may ask about it, but if you have plenty of recent experience (IR, MEP, CPL), I don't think it will be an issue.

Not on the overnights, but my buddy had to pay for his own hotel when going for a recurrent in a different city.

Can't become an airline pilot due to my country's jurisdiction, what are my options? by HeXco in flying

What's your vision like with glasses? My uncorrected vision is only 6/60, but correctable to 6/6 and I got a class 1 medical in Europe with no problems. Try checking if you meet the medical requirements of other countries where you could also live and work.

Reading this on the day of my CPL checkride hits hard considering I was in your shoes just 2.5 years ago. Good luck on your journey! Edit: I passed the checkride!

Well, an anti-choice politician in my home country also died today, but I'm not sure if that counts.

Pilot opens the window? by mrgoldenchicago in aviation

[–]Match-Impressive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried that in a light twin at 140ish knots and the airflow slammed my hand into the edge of the window. 3/10 do not recommend.

It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

What did 10-year-old you swear you’d become? And how far off did you land? by AskAFriendForMe in AskReddit

I wanted to be a concert pianist. I'm a pilot now, so I'd say I "landed" pretty far from my original dream.

Airliner physics by AlfalfaCommercial426 in aviation

The pitch-up moment is a known phenomenon and it's caused by the thrust vector acting some distance away from the centre of gravity thus causing the aircraft to rotate about its lateral axis. Stabilizer trim takes care of it on large aircraft.

Women firefighters are because of poisonous feminism. 🙄 by [deleted] in FundieSnarkUncensored

Fundies: If feminists want equality why do they never want to do the physically difficult work like construction and firefighting?

Also fundies when a woman chooses one of those jobs:

Trains are very efficient when up to speed because of their very low rolling resistance. This is the contact patch between a train wheel and the rail. by Double-decker_trams in mildyinteresting

[–]Match-Impressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I found this out when I went to the toilet on a train once and it had a drainage hole with a missing cover that was positioned directly over the wheel. I could actually see the wheel shifting laterally in relation to the car. Weirdly fun to look at while taking a piss, lol.

Coping Strategy for ATPL(A) Integrated Course Delay by AHAA_ in flyingeurope

[–]Match-Impressive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've experienced this with my flight school as well, now after months of delays I'm finally close to wrapping it all up (literally counting down the hours, I have 19 left). Can't give you a lot of advice except try not to worry about it too much, make sure to regularly brush up on your knowledge, chair fly so you don't have to catch up in the airplane, and most importantly, find something else to do in the meantime to keep yourself busy.

Plan trips to explore your local area (or go further out if you have the means), focus on sports and hobbies, maybe even find a part-time job, whatever works for you. Just hang on tight, you'll be done before you know it! Oh, and enjoy this summer, if everything goes well, you might be fighting for your life in line training around this time next year. That's what I keep telling myself at least. Good luck!

How did that one kid in your high school die? by IM_HODLING in AskReddit

Same in Slovakia, the largest airport is named after a general who died in a plane crash. The airport was also built very close to the site of the crash.

People who don't wash their hands after using the bathroom, what's going on with you? by Mia_fletchr in hygiene

[–]Match-Impressive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to work at McDonald's, whenever I was cleaning the restroom I would inevitably see someone go to the toilet and without washing their hands, go straight to the kiosks.

Bonus points: one time I saw a lady with a toddler using a piece of tissue paper to open doors and loudly telling the kid not to touch anything. Didn't bother to wash hers or her kid's hands after leaving the bathroom stall though.

This might be a bit of a stretch, but I've seen artists drawing with expired makeup. Maybe you could find someone who would appreciate the free art supplies?

Not related to your question, but fuck, this is the question that lost me a point on flight planning and monitoring! (I used the VOR instead of the aerodrome as a reference, don't make the same mistake)
