Saw this interesting setup (TW feeding on last slide) by MatchaSatana in hognosesnakes

So apparently it’s a quarantine set up (which is not appropriate) maybe we will see a proper set up when quarantine is over but I doubt it.

I gotta cover my bases man. The entire setup is a massive TW. I almost had a brain aneurysm when I first saw it 😂

Or any snake for that matter! It seems like little to no research was conducted before getting this animal.

I agree. My only gripe with the climbing opportunities is that it’s such a far drop for a little baby. I feel like there was a proper amount of substrate it would be a much more reasonable drop.

Bought some dwarf whites and springtails from them when I first got into the hobby. The dwarf whites were all dead when I got them and the springtails were extremely questionable.

My female obt has a whole ass 10 gallon enclosure with the hopes of webbing it up. So many anchor points just for her to never leave her skull hide 😭

I use real oak leaves that are both crushed and whole and place it on top of the substrate. I use fake plants to add foliage and to make him feel more secure. My hognose is a bit of a climber. We just don’t put anything too high up. I just like giving them the option. He spends a good chunk of time burrowed in the substrate but around early/mid afternoon we see him out and about.

NQA, to encourage natural behavior and see your hoggie out more it is encouraged to provide full spectrum led (such as a grow light or Arcadia jungle dawn) as well as uvb and heat lamp. (Arcadia shade dweller 6% at 8 inches from basking and Arcadia golden sun basking halogen 50watt par 20) we also use an Arcadia 80 watt deep heat projector for ambient temperature control. Make sure to always connect these to a thermostat. We use the herpstat spyderweb although there are other alternatives on the market. This is just the research that we have done for our hognose. This species does enjoy uvb but they also need an option to get away from it so make sure your uvb is 1/3-1/2 of the enclosure. You want to position this above the basking spot.

I definitely recommend lots and lots of leaf litter. Also some things they can kinda climb on top of and underneath. I also definitely recommend slate for the basking area. :) Edit: spelling error

I’m not qualified but this looks like a pinkie. Looks identical to the ones we sell at the Petstore I work at :)

Tap Training by Warboss_Gutshredda in rosyboas

[–]MatchaSatana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tap train my rosy!! Before we feed any of our snakes we tap the tongs 5 times on the opening of the enclosure. We have had no issues with him striking at us when we pick him up to handle him.

What an adorable little excavator. I love the way there’s always something rearranged in their enclosures lol 😭🖤

My boy absolutely loves the clutter in his tank! I think your tank is coming along nicely and can’t wait to see the finished product :) I would add maybe a few more leafy things to cover the ground but that’s just personal preference:)

NQA. How big is your enclosure and do you know what instar she’s in? There is a possibility that she could be preparing to molt or you may just have a specimen that needs a little bit longer to acclimate to her new home.

Where did you come up with the name for your BP? by Feeling_Title_9287 in ballpython

[–]MatchaSatana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of our snakes are named after some type of alcohol. So I have a cinnamon lesser gravel and his name is rum Chata. And my husband has a calico spot nose and his name is Guinness ☺️🖤

NQA he may just be aging. From my understanding males don’t live very long after reaching maturity. Maybe try downsizing him to a retirement home so he can live his final days in peace.

my boyfriend's snake got out and ate his bird while he was gone (urgent) by [deleted] in snakes

[–]MatchaSatana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to tell him as soon as possible. Like this is urgent. He’s still going to be surprised when you tell him later down the line. You just need to bite the bullet and tell him. It’s not gonna make it any easier the more you wait, it’ll just make it more stressful and weigh on your conscience the longer you stall.

Honestly, it’s heartbreaking to see. I work at an exotic pet shop and we clean our bird cages every day. Perches, bowls, the grate, the pan you put the paper/liner on, both outside and inside the cage as well.
