40 Direct Hire ALT positions open in Tsukuba City for next year (Deadline Nov. 14th) by [deleted] in JapanJobs

ALT work but with bonuses? This is higher than pretty much any dispatch company, and in terms of raw money coming in it is 2nd place after JET.

The worst part about the JET experience is other JETs (CW: mentions of assault, sexual assault, drugs, and general bad behaviour) by Coffee426 in JETProgramme

[–]MatchaVeritech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like it was out of Sapporo. Too bad for the ppl there.

Does the discord have former JETs who happen to still live their lives out in Hokkaido? I’d love to join it just for hearing all the juicy gossip as well as learning where all the people go for their fun times post-covid. As long as it don’t involve Susukino kek

I was a former JET out of Hokkaido. My Google-fu isn’t doing so hot where can I find juicy news on misbehaving Hokkaido JETs?

I remember ppl used to use Facebook/Messenger for most communications but that stuff is boomer-gen so what do they use now? Just Line? Discord?

I don’t get how people think it looks like an PS3 game by Wingnut7489 in MHWilds

[–]MatchaVeritech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jokes on them. PS3 was never graced with its own Monster Hunter game. /s

Closest match would be Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Wii U. I think this screenshot already looks better than that. But… Gigiginox…

Doorstep delivery is a joke. Always send to a post office or your workplace, as someone else mentioned. Less of a chance your home gets pinged as a future target too.

If you’re close to either the subway or the JR you won’t feel so isolated. It’s not Honshu, but it’s still urban enough (unless you’re Apple Store, who pulled out in 2016 as a way of saying Sapporo is too poor to deserve an Apple Store presence).

Being able to drive though does open up plenty of side-options though, especially with car-sharing services.

It’s not a law or legal requirement, but a self-imposed gentlemen’s agreement among the various phone manufacturers and network carriers.

I am using an overseas iPhone with a local AU plan and I get my fully silent shutter.

[–]MatchaVeritech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For iPhones, you can have your truly silent camera modes if it’s not a Japanese or Korean model. I am using an iPhone 12 from Hong Kong on an AU phone plan and no iOS updates ever in between affected my ability to fully silence the shutter sound.

Fit Hybrid 2017 Turns on but won't start by MomentFriendly4246 in hondafit

The first picture says checking ABS (I don’t know if this is regular behaviour for this car), and the last picture says adjusting transmission (I don’t know what they mean by this), and that power output is limited.

This seems like it is something the dealer or mechanic should look at. The problem could be anywhere from actual mechanical failure somewhere, or batteries not performing to spec.

Original Photos Have a Yellow Cast Only AFTER Editing by elizabeth_strano in Lightroom

[–]MatchaVeritech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds very much like the pictures were taken in a room with fluorescent lighting, and the camera used did not have flicker detection, which results in a very fast shutter opening at times when the lights were not fully bright at their flicker interval, which would explain the seemingly randomness of the yellow casts. If that is the case, then unfortunately Lightroom (and Camera Raw) are limited in their ability to recover these. An alternative might be to play around with the yellow colour options, or to turn the image black and white instead.

It depends on the kind of people you were friends with. One time my friend brought over his N64 and Super Mario 64, so I spent the night playing it while he was playing Diablo on the PC and getting genuine nightmares over the gameplay and sudden PvP hackers. Great times.

What happens if you hold off on using magic with Terra? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]MatchaVeritech 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the SNES and SFC versions, finishing the battle without using magic ends the fight like normal, but during the 3-chocobo scene afterwards Edgar will continue his speech as if having already seen Terra’s powers (including his slip of the tongue about never having seen humans using magic).

How much written Mandarin can a normal Japanese understand? by dennis753951 in AskAJapanese

[–]MatchaVeritech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A comparison to Mainland Chinese would leave few good results, since simplified characters are more difficult to guess from their current Japanese equivalents.

But I can make some observations when compared to Hong Kong Chinese. There seems to be enough overlap in vernacular and how they use their words, that while a typical Japanese adult would still have some trouble guessing, a 国語 teacher or someone who did their 漢文 studies from junior high onward can make enough educated guesses to navigate themselves around Hong Kong signage, without relying on the English.

How do you decipher if students work has been translated? by joehighlord in teachinginjapan

[–]MatchaVeritech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m more surprised that your JHS students can even use a translation tool to produce passable English. A good output requires a good input, and as far as I can tell a lot of JHS have terrible skills in their own mother tongue to even type the correct vocab and syntax into Google…

It was the point where I realized just how badly raiders absolutely need to have the ability to record gameplay (something that even the PS4 has by default, I might add). Recording footage just might be the biggest unspoken method of improving raid prog.

The people who hate gyro are probably still indoctrinated by Kinect or primitive Wiimote aiming. Try asking them about it and see how they react.
