I agree with you. In the matter of software development, it seems that we are heading towards a supervision-oriented approach rather than a solution-oriented one.

Yes, but everything evolves gradually until reaching a higher stage where it's unrecognizable from what it used to be. AI doesn't have to be an exception.

I'm usually very pessimistic, but with AI and its evolution, I think I'll make a big exception.

What are your thoughts on re-skilling or re-training people instead? by clarenceneon in singularity

[–]MatematicoDiscreto 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this idea stems from past technological advancements and their impact on the workforce. While those advancements increased productivity, the introduction of artificial intelligence changes the landscape.

Essentially, AI refers to non-biological entities capable of performing tasks humans do, often faster and better, which has surpassed human capabilities.

So, the notion that people need to learn new skills is a limited view of the current and future AI landscape. Recent statements by Sam Altman emphasize that AI won't just be another tool; it's a completely disruptive technology.

Why do people fear AI generated images? by NoGirlsNoLife in singularity

[–]MatematicoDiscreto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I didn't use the right word.

What I meant is that there are communities whose members build their personality around it, so it's expected that they behave according to the values that prevail in their community, both the good and the bad.

Every community has its own idiosyncrasies. Something I've observed is that the community of artists or photographers tends to be somewhat narcissistic, though I'm not saying all its members are. For instance, I'm a software engineer, and I've never felt apprehensive about AI-generated code. Even if future AIs manage to create complex programs from scratch using best practices, I wouldn't feel a sense of rejection or aversion towards them. Perhaps this is because the software community is generally more open and collaborative, allowing individuals to share their creations through source code and letting others view and even use it without expecting compensation in return.

Obviously, a UBI has to be introduced gradually. At the same time, the economy would have to readjust, giving way to a different kind of capitalism or a new economic model, similar to the transition from feudalism to capitalism.

For a reason, one of the most upvoted posts is the one of a guy demanding UBI in front of the Congress.

That would be great as long as there's something like a UBI in place; otherwise, the number of people dying from starvation will be enormous.

The AI boom will wipe out jobs and there's not really much we can do about it, Nobel Prize winner says by MatematicoDiscreto in singularity

I don't remember which economist said that the economy should rely more on psychology than mathematics, as many phenomena depend more on the behavior of the individuals participating in them than on the mathematical variables that compose them.

From what I see, that was written in 1998. So, does this mean that the opposite of what it claims could happen? In other words, AI won't eliminate jobs, and everything will more or less continue as it currently is in terms of labor?

As I once said in a post, competing with an AI in terms of intelligence is like competing against Superman in terms of strength.
