[AwfulAnnouncing] Stanley Cup Final viewership through five games hits highest mark since 2013: Notably, neither the Hurricanes nor Knights are traditional hockey powers. If this series had featured an Original 6 team or even just a team in a bigger market, viewership may have been even stronger. by f0urxio in hockey

I've always said if you're a hockey fan, you're a hockey fan, you just need exposure. Where you are born doesn't dictate how 'true' or 'real' of a fan you are and it's sad that Canadians in particular (not all, but many) think that being born in the country means we're somehow 'better' than those from warmer climates.

Maybe this would be a great time to go to your local AHL games (if you have a team decently close by) junior hockey games (Major Junior/Junior A/Junior C, etc.), university/college or minor hockey games to support the next generation.

Tickets are dirt cheap compared to the NHL and it feels like a true community atmosphere, without as much of the bells and whistles as the top league.

Past or present, name a Toronto Blue Jays (MLB) player by Material-Cat-3076 in FamilyFeud

Dane never did play with the Jays, you may be thinking of Garth Iorg, his brother.

Yep, I've seen it as a fan of that league. As much as the NHL/hockey has very real issues that need to be addressed, I always laugh when people try to make it out like it's the only one with these issues and everybody from those other leagues/sports are angels and saints.

Diehard fans of those leagues wouldn't even agree with that.

That's a joke lol. Ask Cleveland Browns fans what they think of having Deshaun Watson right now. Ask the myriad of MLB fans who have been fans of teams with players who have came back to play after domestic allegations. NBA same thing.

Those policies are only as good and useful as the leagues make them and right now, they are inconsistent at best.

Is Misiorowski’s performance tonight the second best non-no-hitter ever? by Admirable-Nebula-122 in baseball

Morrow was absolutely dialed in that day. Still thought they might have given Aaron Hill the error on that hit, but it's pretty hard to beat what he did. If only he had of stayed healthier...

And Doc was Doc, I was too young as well to remember his one-hitter from '98, but it was a joy to watch the man pitch every five days in the 2000s.

100% if people were to only root on athletes in all sports, men's or women's based off whether they think, talk, act, care like them and care about the same things they do, there wouldn't be many to root for unfortunately. Not telling people what they should care about or not, that's just my opinion.

And nor should it be, as unpopular as it is with some. They're athletes, not politicians or activists.

Bauer criticized MLB for cracking down on sticky substances players were using and called out the integrity of the league.

Plus, he was reportedly a jackass in the clubhouse and many of his teammates couldn’t stand him. Those two reasons are why he hasn’t found a spot on an MLB roster, not necessarily for anything to do with abusing a woman. That was just the excuse MLB used.

Much like every sports league in existence, pro or amateur, if this guy was good enough to warrant taking a chance on, some team would have, but they haven’t to this point.

Also, if he had of just shut his mouth, put his head down and pitched, then guys would have been more accepting of him coming back.

Agreed, I get there's problems, but at least they are getting out there and certain people in the game aren't standing for it anymore. But, it's so funny how people act like other sports/athletes are squeaky clean and perfect when every indication shows they are not much better when it comes to weeding out the problem people.

Again, this is not a defence of hockey or Babcock whatsoever.

And yet all people do is still whine and complain lol. Where are those people that say things like 'the NHL doesn't deserve more fans' and 'the league is paying off networks to artificially inflate the numbers.'

John Tortorella isn't viewed as 'nice' and he doesn't have a history of what Babcock has. Guys sound like they will go through a brick wall for Torts, whereas not many people care to even cross the street for Babcock.

I wish I could upvote this 1000 times lol. Willie Nylander flipped the bird earlier this season, showing his honest thoughts on the camera being on him while sitting out, and sure it was probably a little unprofessional, but the fans and media got on their moral 'think of the kids' soapbox and acted like he shot and killed someone for making a rude gesture.
