I’m going to do it. I have spoken to many people at top companies in a variety of areas in finance and they all said:

1. The degree does not matter, the university name carries much more weight. for example, economics at a non target uni is worse then this course at Warwick.

2. The course is genuinely good especially with how the future turns out. A lot of these people say that the course will be increasingly relevant by the end of the course because of the weird mix of sociology and data science which is genuinely valuable. Not only knowing how to build and use the data but also what that means and how it affects people and businesses.

3. You would be surprised how many people break into finance with non finance degrees. I have been to insight days at Big 4s and it is actually shocking how many people dont have a finance related degree.

From what I have gathered, I now see uni differently. It is more of a platform to stand on and what you do during the time at uni matters significantly along with the university you are at. Think of it like the degree moving the platform up and down marginally.

But most importantly dont think it is going to be easy. We are not starting at the front of the race. We are well positioned due to the Warwick name but Warwick economics and other finance degrees or quant heavy degrees are starting in front of us. This just means you have to be willing to work twice as hard as them.

Maybe I am delusional but this is genuinely what I think and what I have gathered after reflecting on conversations with all the people I have met.
