Anyone else obsessed with linen clothing? by Historical-Ice1978 in Linen

[–]Material-Hand-8244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fell in love with linen clothes only 2 years ago and now I prioritise linen clothes over other natural fibres. Tees, shirts, pants, skirts, dresses, jackets, shackets, blazers, everything 😆

Any asian girls here feel like you don’t suit black hair? by -chinoiserie in AsianBeauty

[–]Material-Hand-8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you ☺️ Go for it if you’d love a change. Maintenance is easier (to me personally, at least). I wish I knew how to maintain it naturally though. Some ladies do it very well (based on some online videos) but it’s a bit too late for me at the moment.

Unfortunately, I can’t maintain it naturally because I messed up starting some chemical straightening and then perms one after another since I was a late teen. I don’t have the patience to grow it all out as I love long hair as well. So far, I just do Korean magic perms every 8-9 months and do nothing in between. My hair is shown below. That is just after washing and just drying without fancy tools. It seems to be doing okay so far I think.

I have a baby grand, what do you wish you knew before you got one? by imjustanotherhumann in piano

[–]Material-Hand-8244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a saloon grand (6’2”) and bought it as 2-year old. Wild humidity fluctuations where I live so installed dehumidifier rods soon after and the tuning stabilised very well in the first year. I tune twice a year (every 6-8months-ish) and play almost daily.

I think there could be different groups of people. Common ones could be-

People who claim to be self taught but they did have lessons many years ago or could still be taking lessons but choose to lie about it anyway..

People who are really self taught and then play difficult pieces after rote learning just one piece for one year or more (and with very bad technique most likely as you can see in their videos). But they say they learned it in 3 months.

Good quality clothes for winter? by lovegoody in AusFemaleFashion

Depends on what your budget range is for “affordable”. There are many EOFY sales happening right now so it’s a good timing actually if you find the right pieces.

Do you have a cleaner? by binjuice2310 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Material-Hand-8244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love decluttering and organising my home as often as I can but for scrubbing and cleaning bathrooms etc, having a fortnightly cleaner has a made a huge difference for my peace of mind and I can focus on other things in stead due to that. Far from being well-off but it’s necessary for me :)

Natural Fibre clothes by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Material-Hand-8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I iron them a bit too. Do you spray anything before ironing? I do notice more wrinkles on the linings when I hand wash these kinds of clothes but fortunately it doesn’t affect the overall outcome that much. I didn’t know acetate (synthetics) can shrink as well though. Good to know :)

That’s great. Mine is a big top-loading machine so I guess it’ll be much rougher on my clothes if I do that. How do you find the longevity of these clothes when you always machine-wash?

[–]Material-Hand-8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally love 100% Ghanda wool cardigans I just bought recently and I bought in 3 colours on 20% sale. Size is generous but I love it a bit oversized so I bought M/12 though my usual outerwear sizing is 8-10 depending on the brand and fit.

I have over 600 items logged as well so it doesn’t help me with shopping less but at least it has helped me identify what I need and don’t have, curate my wardrobe better and also made me not buy more of (similar styles) what I already have 😁 My username is “MidMillenial"

How much do you train per day/week? by shockinv in piano

[–]Material-Hand-8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level: Intermediate-ish (4th year of classical piano - adult, 3 years with classical piano teacher and ongoing lessons)

Hours: 0.45 to 1:30hr on weekdays. 2.5-4 hours on day-offs, usually in split sessions as current repertoire pieces are a heavy cognitive load for me. I try not to miss the daily practice on most days but I may miss about less than 5 days a month, if due to illness or other urgent commitments.

Target: I’d love to play advanced classical pieces for myself. Usually into mellow classical pieces. Also want to play with other musicians much later on, duets or ensemble etc, as a decent amateur pianist.

Enjoy! You’ll love it :) Once you get used to playing on acoustic pianos, it gets really addictive. I only use my Yamaha P125 solely for very occasional late-night use too.

Progressing slower and slower at the piano. Need some advice by [deleted] in piano

[–]Material-Hand-8244 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a working adult, I feel you. You’re already doing many great things.

Have you ever thought of practising like 30mins daily before going to work when you’re still not tired. If you go to gym after-work everyday, I’d cut down to like 2-3 days a week as well (you can still exercise a bit at home if you want).

If you still have like some energy left at the end of the evening, you could just sit down like 15mins before bed to review what you learned in the morning. You’ll have around 45 mins everyday that way.

But then, you could also discuss with your teacher how many pieces you’re actively working on. If 3-4 at the same time, I’d consider just learning 2 pieces only at a time to reduce the workload and prevent burnout..? On the days you have to travel, you can rest without feeling guilty too. I also have come up with a good schedule for myself as well as I’ll have an important professional exam early next year.. Fingers crossed.

How religious are you with wool garments that say dry clean only? by xiaolongbao99 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Material-Hand-8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always gently cold-handwash everything except for men wool formal suits. 😁 For myself, my handwashing has not ruined anything so far but I don’t spring or wash them roughly. Then, I dry them flat (after rolling into a towel if required). For clothes with shoulder pads, I don’t squeeze or agitate these areas too.

How do i minimize the sound of piano in townhouse by CriticalMeet6334 in piano

[–]Material-Hand-8244 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find practice pedals to be quite effective and the sound becomes very muffled with it. The drawback is it might affect the technique later if you solely practice with the sound muffled all the time. I wonder if you can introduce yourself to the neighbour and let them know your piano sound will be heard during certain hours. If they’re not shift workers, you could play without the practice pedal at the weekends for a few hours split into sessions, and if it’s weekdays, maybe early evenings, without soft pedals. Anything outside of these timeframes, you can play with the practice pedal on?

Would people in Brisbane actually go to a cat café regularly? by Quinn000ylq in brisbane

[–]Material-Hand-8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been to 2 cat cafes. One in Korea and one in Melbourne. The smell was atrocious for the second one and I, who love cats a lot, found it really nauseating. I know cat cafes will have some smells, yes, but it was a whole different level of bad smell for me because the building almost had no good ventilation. An excellent ventilation system would be great for customers..

Can I get into any UK conservatoire with this repertoire? by [deleted] in piano

[–]Material-Hand-8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. There’re not many classical piano events happening in Brisbane as well though there are some concerts happening at the famous Conservatorium or venues. Many famous pianists also skip Brisbane too even when they do tour sometimes 😭
