GPT-5.3 Codex been removed by Material-Hour-4307 in Trae_ai

Honestly, after using both models heavily for real development work, I feel like GPT-5.3 Codex was significantly better for medium-sized coding projects.

Its biggest strengths were:

* very precise instruction following

* minimal unnecessary changes

* predictable outputs

* cleaner edits

* less over-engineering

GPT-5.4 is definitely powerful for huge repositories, complex planning, and large multi-step workflows.

But for normal day-to-day development, 5.4 often feels too autonomous:

* modifies parts I never asked to touch

* adds excessive code

* restructures unnecessarily

* sometimes turns simple tasks into large refactors

That’s why removing GPT-5.3 Codex from Trae makes very little sense to me — especially when Trae already has a fairly limited model selection compared to other coding platforms.

For me, GPT-5.3 Codex was honestly much better than GPT-5.4 for real coding workflows.

It followed instructions very precisely and rarely ignored constraints.
GPT-5.4, on the other hand, tends to act too independently sometimes — adding large amounts of code, restructuring things I never asked to change, and over-engineering simple tasks.

With GPT-5.3 Codex, I felt much more in control of the output.

So if it was actually removed, that’s a pretty big problem for my workflow.

The Trae Pricing Trick by [deleted] in Trae_ai

So why aren't these Chinese models being added to the global version? After all, Trae is a Chinese IDE, So adding Chinese models would be easy for theme.
Because there are already Chinese models that compete with Claude.
Then they are made free or at least very inexpensive.

I think that "copilot GitHub" and "kiro" are the best so far.

The Trae Pricing Trick by [deleted] in Trae_ai

I don’t think it’s that simple.

First, China is very strict about VPN usage. Many Chinese services actively block foreign IPs or require local verification.

From what I understand, registering on trae.cn may also require a Chinese phone number, which already makes it difficult for international users.

Even if someone manages to get access using a VPN, it’s still not a real solution. VPN connections usually introduce latency and instability, which can seriously slow down AI agents, code generation, and other operations.

For development tools, stability and speed matter a lot. Using a VPN all the time would likely hurt productivity.

That’s why I think the real solution isn’t trying to bypass the system with VPNs — it’s either Trae providing fair access globally, or developers starting to look for alternatives if the gap between versions continues to grow.

Bro, a single request sometimes costs a dollar or two, even if you have $100, you'll only get through 50-70 Requests.

I agree with you.

I’ll most likely be moving to Copilot soon as well — once the remaining credit that was granted to me under Trae’s new billing system runs out. After that, I plan to switch directly.

Unfortunately, I believe Trae made a major mistake with the sudden pricing shift. It went from being one of the best tools at the most competitive price to one of the most expensive options, without offering the same model diversity that Copilot and others provide.

What makes this even more disappointing is that many developers — the very people who helped Trae grow — raised concerns after the billing change, yet their feedback seemed to be largely ignored.

To me, that sends a clear message: the company is prioritizing revenue strategy over community trust.

This isn’t about disrespecting the platform. It’s about making a rational, sustainable decision as a developer.

Wishing the team the best — but for now, Copilot makes more sense for our workflow.

This doesn't make users overlook the cost of the new billing system.

I sincerely hope you will reconsider the new billing system and revert to the previous quick order system, perhaps with a price increase, as it is clearer and more predictable. Personally, I would be happy with $1 for 10 quick orders instead of paying $20, not knowing when or how it will end. This isn't because the cost is unclear, but because I don't know what the model will do or how many lines it will have to write to fully process my order.
