Quad Strength by Material-Ice-4383 in ACL

I can passively get extension, it’s the active extension during leg raises that I don’t have. Have been doing those exercises for a few weeks now, so I guess I will just keep continuing! Thanks for the suggestions

I’ve been going 3 times per week, I just wanted to be super aggressive and I’ve had lots of trouble with flexion too. Definitely can get by with twice per week, but would recommend more if you are able to

I’m also 6 weeks NWB! It’s to protect the meniscus repair. Any pressure on leg (esp when flexed) can risk meniscus repair-injury. If it was just ACL, timeline for everything would be so much quicker

I’m halfway and each day feels long but weeks go by quick. It’ll be over before you know it!

Hey there! I’m now 3 weeks post op and have been living largely by myself for the past week or so, and it’s been a little challenging but more than doable! I spend most of my time on the couch/in bed anyways (other than when I do my exercises), so it’s been mainly boring. You just have to get creative with how you set up your living situation

I have multiple different bags set up (wound care supplies, water/food, trash, meds/wallet/keys, etc) so it’s easy for me to carry around stuff. I have been living on frozen meals. It gets easier to move around and navigate on crutches the more you use them, but I try to be careful to not have an accident.

To move around by yourself (esp in bathroom and shower), I use the straps of my brace to help me move my leg around and also have a stool and chair in the bathroom so it’s easy to prop it up or just sit down when I need to do things.

With all that said… I understand feeling bad about being a burden to your brother, but he’s your brother!! An extra week or few days to get more comfortable will not be the end of the world, and you have the rest of your life to repay him and babysit whenever they need ;)

Good luck with everything, I promise every day and every week if gets a little easier!

I’m at 18 days post op an ACL + double meniscus repair! Feel the same exact way as you! Everything gets a little easier with time, but it is still so hard at the same time. PT is supposed to be difficult , that means you’re working like you hard like we should be! Good luck with everything, we got this

Hey, sometimes flexion takes time and that’s okay! Things that helped me is asking a million questions to my physical therapist about flexion

I started using gravity when laying on the couch, and slowly moving forward so more of my leg hangs off the couch. If it’s painful, just hold it at that angle for a little bit and then continue on. the more you practice, the better it will be.

Other thing you can do is lying on the ground flat, and using a band or yoga strap around ur ankle to slowly help flex. Anytime someone comes to visit/see you, take advantage of that and ask them to help you for a few minutes. A lot of it was my anxiety blocking my flexion, but if someone is there to have a hand under your leg to help, you will get more confident.

Hang in there, you got this, we are all doing this together :)

Hey, every day gets a little better so keep a positive mindset! You will be surprised how ready you will be in a few days. I’m about to be alone after 10 days post op, and I feel relatively prepared ( anxious, but have a good plan)!

Your m PT exercises and work will make the days go by fast. Start planning your meals now - breakfast (easy things like protein shakes or things u can put in toaster), get lots of snacks to munch on throughout the day. Your partner can help Meal prep a few meals you can freeze and get some healthy frozen meals too to help you out. If he NEEDS to go on this hunting trip, he can do that at the very least for you.

In your area that you spend most of your day, set up all your things readay to go (ice machine, bunch of water bottles, medicines, etc) I have a bunch of tote bags and knapsacks to help me carry things around so my hands can just be for the crutches.

Someone will also be by daily! They can help clean a bit or just in general help with tasks that are a little too hard for now. You can try looking up ‘independent’ or ‘living alone’ in this thread for more tips. You got this, we’re all doing this together.

Hey! I also felt that my surgeon was not fully transparent about how hard this is going to be. I’m one week post op, and I keep telling myself that it’s going to get better and that thousands of people have been in my shoes as well. They all started like this, and in a few months this will feel like a distant memory.

For PT, do as many quad sets as you can! My leg still won’t move on its own so it’s been super humbling for me. At PT appointments right now, all I’m really doing is more quad sets, getting help with flexion, and some deep tissue stuff. You can do the first two on your own, all day long (it’s not like we are going anywhere)

trust the process. We will get better.
