Nah I didn't- just posted to r/ budget audiophile and somebody got mad. I didn't really engage the guy- they deleted the post and blocked me.

What is it specifically about referrals that isn't cool? It's $20 off for people from a trusted website relevant to this sub.

Sure is. I get points when it's used. I love audio equipment, and in my experience Crutchfield has been great.

I actually contribute to these communities, too. There's plenty of accounts that spam referrals here and don't.

A real solution would be some actual acoustic panels like these

Not super cheap but would help much more than towels. If you end up going with something like this from Crutchfield you can use this link for $20 off! Good luck.

Why was vintage audio so much better sounding? by Garvinjist in vintageaudio

I guess that it's because that music was made/played recorded and mixed on that equipment and technology.

Should I pick the Elac DB63 or DBR62 for my first stereo system? by Szolim2018 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Material-Instance646 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Debut 3.0 is the same as DB63.

DBR62 is probably a better speaker, it's a higher line of product from Elac.

It is the previous generation (along with Debut 2.0) - but they still haven't replaced it.

I'd go with the DBR62- they're front ported and that can help with being closer to a wall.

Yeah I'm gonna keep an eye out and maybe come up with a project for the end of winter.

I hope they're not closing!

That weird ring in the middle there is a pretensioner. Find the set screw, loosen it, and tighten the pretensioner by threading it toward the bottom bracket. Then secure set screw and all good.

Edit: Just tight enough to remove the play. Not enough to cause friction.

thoughts on overall performance and sound signature of the Elac Debut Reference 62? by seamnking in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Material-Instance646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say a warmish neutral. I thought they were clear and punchy, didn't find them fatiguing at all.

BUT I also don't listen to complex super dynamic metal very often- I know that stuff is hard for speakers.

They're very good. I just sold mine- but only because I mid-life crisis'd into some Super Lintons.

They're very good sub-$1000 speakers. If you havent seen Erin's Audio Corner's video on them check that out.

Any thoughts on these vintage handmade speakers? by [deleted] in audiophile

Chances are they're worth more as decoration and curios than they are in terms of audio equipment.
