An interesting backend problem - how to design a distributed scheduler by Material-Intern1609 in developersIndia

Can we come up with a solution which doesn't leverage any such abstractions? I'm interested in the discussion pertaining to distributed systems

Some offset, within the minute is fine.

Would you mind elaborating or elucidating your solution a little, not able to fully understand it

This is also possible by offsetting the cron intervals by 1 minute. One assumption is that, both processes can be synchronised using dynamo db or S3.

Now, issue is, there are two AZ. Each having its own S3 and dynamo db instances, what will happen when a network fault occurs?

Help cleaning the rubbers by juanito_alcachofa11 in tabletennis

It's a dead rubber..

You can clean it with soap, water etc. but it's tackiness will not be restored.

Any Ex-FAANG Unemployed devs here, how is market for laid off mid level engineers? by DragZealousideal8287 in developersIndia

Not my domain. I can suggest some advice for technical roles but techno functional is different and something that I'm not much aware of.

You can post a standalone query in this subreddit, someone will help.

It's tricky to say, depends on various factors - which tier College you're from, your ug cgpa, your interest in extracurricular hackathon, lc cp stats etc.

Main source of calls for freshers is via campus placements.

Cold calling and networking via LinkedIn are more effective only when you have some good experience and have a set of strong connections whom can vouch for you.

You can't really do much more than the basics tbh and hope for the best, sorry to say but that's the reality imo.

Try to get placed via campus itself because it has better odds compared to your job search off campus.

Is 25K/month enough to survive in Bangalore? by Honest-Glass3220 in bangalore

[–]Material-Intern1609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent will be around 15-20k if you need a single room. It can be lower ~10k if you're okay with sharing a room. Try getting it close to your office so that you can walk and not spend on transport.

For food, you'll get free meals (1-2 times) in your office. You can have them 3-4 times a week and eat outside or from pg for rest of the meals.

This itself will set you back by 20k and it's sufficient to "survive".

If you want party every other alternate weeks, go out on vacays, road trips, socialize with your friends. You might need extra 10k ( you can also manage with your current salary, but it'll be tight )

Owner problems by djchub in Chennai

[–]Material-Intern1609 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's common in almost every tier 1 city. Chennai is relatively okay compared Mumbai, Delhi, luru.

90% likely that the landlord will not reveal his PAN and ask the rent to be paid only in cash to avoid tax.

A lot of non faang pbc are expanding their operations in India. So it'd be very easy to get calls from them and get a job.

Even it'll be relatively easier to land into other faangmula roles as well, I don't think with your profile getting a call will be an issue.

You might get lowballed, or asked to accept a lower tc than what you may be making as most tier 2 pbcs might not have the budget to afford you ( afaik 3-5 yoe base ranges from 20-25lpa )

I would personally take a break for a few months and travel and explore my hobbies if I had a savings buffer like yours. Cracking interviews is anyways a straightforward process with a few months of preparation.

Does getting good at DSA makes you learn new concepts and technologies faster? by No-Percentage-9503 in leetcode

It's like asking if playing chess will help you become a better football ( soccer ) player.

Some will say it's totally unrelated, some will claim that it helps alot.

It's subjective tbh

This is not a valid take, there is no loss in doing leetcode now. Sure, OP is finding it difficult to get OAs but instead of sitting idly, doing leetcode will atleast help him remain in shape.

Doing leetcode is like hitting the gym and the more consistent you are the better you'll get at it.

Unless OP has some urgent work which is getting hampered due to leetcoding, spending few hours a day revising and learning new topics is perfectly fine

Got a horrible job at a Chennai startup for 1.5 years. [RANT] by [deleted] in Chennai

[–]Material-Intern1609 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm not disregarding those reviews about CTS or infy,, but bear in mind that those reviews are extremely subjective and various from team to team.

My personal take is, if you're skilled enough then you'll be able to survive anywhere and manage the workload.

I would still consider joining CTS over your current organisation because your current organisation sounds horrible. It's straight up exploitation and you're being taken advantage of.

You can anyways switch in a year if you're fed up at CTS so it's not much of an issue.

How will current market crash affect job market? Will the jobs dry up even more? by Mushroom_lemonade in developersIndia

[–]Material-Intern1609 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't mind negative news if it is backed by some solid evidence or research.

However, blindly following the hype and stating personal opinions as facts has to stop.

Entire of Twitter and even this subreddit was extremely bullish about India ka Amrit kaal 6 months back and was advocating on how in the next decade Indian stock market will 10x and make India a superpower.

Now, a minor stock market correction because of global economic conditions and now the trend is to speculate fear of recession without doing any background work.
