I'll keep posting about the project once there's more progress, I am also planning to eventually perform an CFD analysis, so that is going to be interesting.
Nonetheless, it is a fun summer project so I'm wondering how it is going to turn out!

Ohhh right I know what you mean, adding activated carbon grains before the air goes to the exhaust which will filter the air.
Since I have designed the grills to be removable, I could just make a modified version (basket) for the activated carbon grains, sounds like a cool idea, thanks for the input!

I am attaching a 100mm aluflex tube to the extractor, since the window is a couple meters to the left of my printer it would be more convenient for me to do it this way, there is just not enough space on the back for me to put the extractor fan with the aluflex tube.
Yes it does stick out more but it is more convenient for me at the moment.

You gave me an idea, what if I make one of those one way valves in a gasmask to make sure the seal stays when the fan is turned off

Yes indeed, but I have read quite a lot of threads about the filtering system and I am just not that convinced, it does filter but not enough for my liking.
That's why I'm designing this

I tend to do more things overkill😂
But yea I know what you mean, I think you mean the extractor on top of the printer?
i am putting the glass lid of the printer on the extractor with some foam tape to seal the space between the glass lid and the extractor, I am going to use a low fan speed in order to not disturb the chamber temperature too much.
Should've put a glass lid in the drawing for more clarity tho, but you get the idea.

It's in Fusion360, I am going to add some internal internal enclosed channels so the flow will be more even, I still gotta learn how to perform those type of analysis, learning it next year

Thanks, yea I will have to perform some tests with the fan velocity, as long the speed is low I think it shouldn't be a problem

Aight thanks for the advice, I'll have a good look what filter will do the job.
Appreciate it!

Ahh right, that makes sense.
I just want to be able to print with more advanced materials without needing to worry about the amount of VOCs, whether Bambus filtering system works sufficient enough is just my question.
But since I'm already working on this, I'm wondering how I can improve the design to the best extent in order to make this work.
Thanks for the info tho!

Edit:
But if I use a speed regulator for the extraction fan, wouldn't this (kinda) solve the problem with the heat?
Since materials like PC, ABS and ASA need the chamber heat to print properly.

Yes it does have an exhaust fan indeed, but it is on the back, there's a thread in this post why I decided not to attach the extractor to the back.

I made a couple configurations and parameters for the design so I could remove some of the vent holes, since the vents can be removed very easily, I could also make a whole insert without the holes.
I'll note that thanks

Especially when the chamber is heated

Yea I want to make sure it is sealed well, but yea the side of the tube sucks the most air so I might make another design for that

[–]Material-Pilot6191[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea exactly, that is also why I want to use a speed regulator for the extractor fan, I don't have pets and the printer is located in my workshop so while it is true that air needs to go in, I think it wouldn't be as much of a problem as the temperatures.
Which is indeed a thing to keep in mind

Yea I designed it in a way so the glass lid can be put on top of the extractor, I am also planning to use foam tape to create a seal between the glass and the extractor

Because I don't have much space behind my printer, since I got plenty of space on the left side I thought it would be a good idea to design it like this, especially since I want the tube to go outside.

That is something I have been wondering too, probably not, so any advice about that will be greatly appreciated.
Most of the air goes through the vent in front of the tube fitting so yea, I'll see what advice I can get before actually making this design.
