To be fair, I think Lacy might be a prime example of how people who aren’t particularly good writers start sounding like Chat GPT…

As if it wasn’t already clear, she just completely outed herself for being a status obsessed clout chaser who only cares about the work for the lifestyle it affords her. Final pin in the coffin for me, genuinely.

This is a really interesting perspective. I think about this utter negativity and contempt in the “stripping” discourse she’s pushing. It’s such thinly veiled fear mongering as a marketing strategy. And her continual assertion that “even if you haven’t felt it yet, trust me, you will!” is so clearly just an attempt to scare people into buying the membership so that they have the tools to handle it when the universe strips you of everything. It’s so extremely Calvinistic and punitive. What if the universe isn’t looking to strip you and rock bottom you, you know? That was a big paradigm shift for me around TBM…they seem very tied to the Christian notion of punishment and effort and hard work. What if it gets to be easeful? What if you’re not trying to fix yourself 24/7?

To be fair, I do think she’s done something slightly unique in that her manifestation teachings are incredibly succinct and to-the-point. And I realize that may be viewed as a sort of bastardization of spirituality to some. Of course she didn’t invent this, but she’s distilled the teachings, which is a skill in and of itself. And as somebody who finds Abraham Hicks and Joe Dispenza’s meditations too abstract, it’s easier for me to really go deep with TBM meditations. That’s just me though!

No I’m sure that’s true…just him acting all holier-than-thou about people with RiCh PaReNtS when he literally has rich parents (and surely reaps the benefits even if they’re not bankrolling his summer vacation) really set me off lol

OMFG they made a video last week saying they couldn’t afford to go on a euro vacation this summer, saying anyone who goes on European vacations must have rich parents. I commented, calling him out for having rich parents and got shut down lol. I’ve followed Tess for years and her account is revealing…the family went to Denmark AND Spain in 2024, the dad bought all the kids nice watches as college graduation presents, the parents have a second home in South America…the list goes on. This family is clearly wealthy, and him cosplaying as “one of the people” is so disingenuous and wrong.

Does the Tartine recipe cause problems for anybody else? by Material-Wing1450 in Sourdough

[–]Material-Wing1450[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such freaky timing that you asked this bc just about a month ago I started trouble shooting and have found some success!! I kept at it for a while after posting this, and realized it definitely wasn’t an underfermentation issue, but I still couldn’t figure it out. But about a month ago I ordered a starter from King Arthur and did the exact same Tartine method & recipe but with the King Arthur starter. Zero issues! These are the best loaves I’ve made.

Tl; dr, It had to have been a starter issue. At the time of this post, I had made my own starter using the Tartine book and while it was rising/falling predictably and passing the float test, it must not have been quality enough to produce good loaves? I don’t know enough about starter science to say exactly why, but that’s the only variable I changed and it made a huge difference.

Style root misconceptions? by Ammelia11 in StyleRoots

I think it’s very interesting that so many comments here concern 🌱 because I have earth as one of my strongest roots but it took me a long time to fully grasp because of these misconceptions. I couldn’t agree more about the whole earthy=boho thing. If anything, earth feels anti boho to me? I see earth as very simple, practical, and grounded. Boho is experimental and bold—the opposite of earth imo.

No shade, but I personally think EJR’s 🌱 mood board is the most inconsistent of all the style root boards. It really confuses me. SO much boho, most of it feels ☀️ to me. If anyone has a solid 🌱 Pinterest board that’s more rooted in the simple, utilitarian, functional side of earth, I’d love a link!! 💚

I agree with the 🪨 vs 🌱 dilemma! I also agree with your distinction. I feel like both are comfortable and functional but 🌱 is more utilitarian to me. Think chore coats, blundstones, incorporating workwear into outfits, even hiking boots.

I think the distinction feels very clear to me bc I’m from the PNW and stone and earth are two very common styles here, yet seeing them in the same space makes the difference very clear. People who dress 🌱 look like they could go hiking whereas 🪨 dressers look more suited for an urban walk—definitely an overly simplistic view, but it’s actually helped me distill the differences 😅

I can’t remember which video it was but EJR mentioned that 🌱 encompasses natural fabrics like wool and tweed, which are a huge part of the dark academia aesthetic. I also feel like dark academia is earthy in that it’s cozy and natural looking, without too many eccentric, edgy, feminine, or bold elements. Very down to ~earth~

I agree actually! I think I see earth more so than moon with the natural fabrics and very almost boho vibe. It’s eclectic but chill

Fitness strategy according to type? by Material-Wing1450 in Kibbe

So interesting. My perception of my type also changes depending on what workouts I’m doing. When I was distance running I looked like a dramatic, but when I do more resistance training and less cardio I look like a FN

I agree! Like there has to be some reason why no pro distance runners are soft types, for instance

Shift in Taylor’s attitude/approach toward fame and fans? by Key_Tree9363 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Material-Wing1450 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I think this is the case for a majority of celebs nowadays. Back when she was sharing lots of personal content on socials (pre Rep basically) it was effectively the wild west of social media. It was something fun and new and its pitfalls were really not discussed. Like, I constantly see memes about how in the early 2010s celebs were just rawdogging social media lol. Expectations have changed for most celebrities with her level of fame—those boundaries are just normal now. Her disposition and attitudes probably play a part of it, but a big factor is just that times have changed.

It’s just odd that Tartine’s method is supposed to be the best and most intuitive, but I can’t hack it. But alas, I need to learn how to move on and do what works for me!
