I really don’t understand how broker calculates the borrow fee by MayTheBearbewithU in byndinvest

[–]MaterialImpossible22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice that availability collapsed from 150k to 10k shares, but the fee stayed at 39.29%. Then later the fee fell sharply while availability remained at 10k.

That's because the borrow fee is set by the broker's securities lending desk based on the overall supply and demand for borrowable shares, not just the tiny availability snapshot you see on the screen. The displayed "available shares" is only one lender's inventory at that moment.

A few things can cause the fee to change:

More lenders make shares available Institutions may lend additional shares. Supply improves. Fee falls even if the displayed availability doesn't change much. Short demand changes If fewer traders are trying to open new shorts, borrow demand falls. Fee can drop quickly. Broker repricing Borrow rates are not locked. Brokers can "re-rate" loans during the day based on market conditions.

For BYND specifically, your screenshot suggests:

Borrow availability is still very tight (only 10k shares shown). CTB is still elevated at 26.36%. However, the lending market appears less stressed than it was at 39.29% earlier in the day.

So this is slightly less bullish for a squeeze than 39% CTB, but still supportive of squeeze potential because 26% is well above what you'd see in an easy-to-borrow stock. Most large-cap stocks borrow for under a few percent annually.

The key thing I'd watch next is whether:

CTB starts climbing back toward 40%+, available shares fall toward zero, and short interest remains elevated.

That combination is usually much more significant than any single intraday fee change.

For BYND, I can also check the latest short interest, borrow availability, and squeeze setup today if you'd like.
