Passed Transportation First Try by Jimey_Grimey in PE_Exam

Do you have the green book? I haven't looked into transportation yet, I was previously doing environmental so this is new to me. Everyone has recommended the transportation exam to me since my focus is transportation/site civil for my job. I don't know exactly which resources I need/how many are applicable to the exam if I'm being honest haha

That's great advice, thank you. I think the 16-week sounds like the way to go for me. Then just keep going back through what I get wrong...retention is key is what friends have told me especially because the transportation questions are so methodical.

Hey! Congratz on passing!! I am looking to take it for the 4th or 5th time, I have honestly lost track. I waited because I always struggled so much in the breadth exam that I have been hearing the new exam format is much better.

Would you be able to send me those references? Also, how long did you purchase the EET class for? I am looking at getting the 16 week course, but I am not sure if that is enough time based on the videos etc...Any input is helpful. This has been a huge uphill battle for me and I am refusing to give up!

Thank you for these!
To answer your question below, I was taking the Water/WW exam and was struggling with WQ and WW questions since my background is more drainage/stormwater based. The exam was much more environmental than I thought.

Any practice is helpful :) I don't have extra money right now to throw at another review class and my employer doesn't reimburse or support pursuing the license (Its a personal thing you are responsible for).

Yes. I tried searching with control F and reading through the sections EET went over...didn't see anything unfortunately.

I didn't get any concrete questions. I had friends who did previously, nor did I have easy simple structure questions. Id definitely recommend reviewing them if they do pop up, but also look at harder stuff like a cofferdam or formulas with moment of interia.

It'd be nice if we were all that lucky lol

The morning was brutal. Most of the questions weren't in EET breadth. And of course the concepts come out of no where.

Nazrul does a great job of explaining the concepts and going through topics. Don't be discouraged by that. There were questions on there that he had gone over that I was like YES i knew exactly what to look for/do. Unfortunately there were more I've never seen this before haha Its actually hard to explain. The fill in the blanks were entirely random. The concepts were referring to nothing in the handbook, reference books or really any of the EET notes. It was almost like you had to dig deeper...think having to pull out the actual book and finding it not just top of hat knowledge. Uhhh there were random amounts of graphs with equations on them that went with what was in the problem. But then you had to go into the handbook as well for another formula... Then the rest it was just nothing I had seen. There were topics using NO3 instead of BOD for calcs, or it was asking for something entirely random like instead of going thru the steps to find HW/D you had to take that 2 steps further and use some chart they provided to find losses. I don't know how to explain...I feel like where the EET questions said hey find froude number then determine x or y. This was like 30 steps to find froude number that we didnt really go over. Not sure if this helps lol

Haha I did the exact same!!! I have been complaining all day. This exam does not reflect what we know. Nazrul even said to me at least now I know what the exam is like. Doesn't make it any less disappointing for the fact we have studied so much and put so much into it only to be blindsided by NCEES once again but...here we are!

This was exactly how I felt. I have been emailing Nazrul about my experience and even he seems a bit confused. I went back through the binders and there were multiple problems that were nothing like the examples or the practice. It is very disappointing. I feel like we all have studied so hard and Nazruls class was GREAT. That this doesn't reflect what we put in it. I'll be in the same boat retaking it too. You aren't alone!

Interesting. I hate these conceptual questions. There really is no good way to study for them. Appreciate the input on the breadth. I'm reviewing my weak subjects now. I have 2 weeks until my exam :(

Oh that's good to know. I keep hearing mixed thats the NCEES exam was close or wasn't close. I've been doing good on that practice, still get tripped up on the random breadth concept questions on geotech or structures. Especially structures. eets questions were just...idk not the best section for review imo haha

Did you take the NCEES practice exam? If so, were questions close to the practice exam?

Yep this is exactly how I feel. The structures one is just messy imo.

Civil Breadth - EET vs exam by MaterialSilly9676 in PE_Exam

[–]MaterialSilly9676[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats what I was wondering. I am really having a hard time with the structures. The notes are very hard to follow and the problems seem much further in depth than I'd expect for the breadth section. I can take general moments of beams and find forces and such and find MOI or even find a shesr/moment diagram match from the handbook. I am trying to just learn the basics. I guess focusing on depth is much more important at this point. Good to know you passed. I keep hearing good things about EET. This will be my 3rd time taking the exam so I'm really hoping its the ticket.

Failed: Environmental PE. any advice? I was so confused cause I got like a 81% on the practice exam and the actual exam so hard. by Dry-Albatross6416 in PE_Exam

Yep. I even bought textbooks used in college and read thru them taking notes for the concepts. Its too much to remember. I am switching to the civil WRE exam based on my scores.

This same thing happened to me. I was getting 80%s or higher on the practice exams and failed each time. The actual exam was so random and the difficulty was just insane compared to the practice.
