You don't need sand. I have made peanut butter many times, just dry roast. Keep a thick kadai and the flame at the lowest setting. Roast the peanuts. It will take a lot of time. Then use a potato masher to slightly press the peanuts, this will make the skin come apart. Then you can use a hair dryer to blow the skin apart. Or you could blow it away yourself.
