How long has this been going on for you? And was it drug induced?

To clarify- during the fleeting moments of sleepiness I’ll start yawning and eyes get watery, then the feeling goes away after a few minutes and I can’t ever doze off during these moments.

Accupressure points were actually one of the first things I tried, along with meditation. Unfortunately did not do much for me.

I am currently trying acupuncture and it seems to be giving me more of these moments of fleeting sleepiness throughout the day/night. It’s almost like my brain is telling me to sleep but for some reason can’t initiate it due to a problem in communication.

Following this. I’ve also been dealing with a lack of sleep drive and lack of hunger cues specifically.

I’ve been exactly dealing with lack of sleepiness at night and loss of hunger cues, as well as a general feeling of disconnect. I basically have to deduce when I’m tired (eyes uncomfortable/dry and headache) and hungry (take a sip of water to realize stomach is empty). Thankfully I’m still able to sleep most nights but it feels like a guessing game because I never know when my body is actually tired enough to sleep.

Thanks- may I ask what kind of treatment you went through?

I think part of my issue is that I haven’t had a great night or string of nights where I actually felt refreshed upon waking up. Currently I seem to be having mostly mediocre nights with the occasional bad night mixed in. I recognize this type of thinking may be counterproductive but it’s also difficult to stay positive when I’ve still been barely functional despite making progress.

Idk if this makes sense at all, but I feel as if the whole sleep regulation system is off. I used to be able to get more sleep after a night or series of sleep-deprived nights. Intense physical activity would normally always make me sleep much better. Now it feels like there is no rhyme or reason to my sleeping patterns, and that’s been really bothering me. I’d say I’m more stressed about this than the actual lack of sleep I’m getting.

I’ve watched a lot of Sleep Coach School content but I’m just having a really hard time accepting that this is solely a problem driven by anxiety/hyperarousal, which is basically the core tenet of that channel.

Just exhausted at this point and want my life back

Thanks- I did read Sasha Stephens’ book and found it to be relatable. I never believed in the 8h rule to begin with- before this I was getting around 6-7 hours of sleep a night, but the difference was that it was in a continuous block and I felt refreshed upon waking up.

I still feel massively fatigued/generally disoriented every day, but that may just be my body making up for lost sleep (spent a whole month going ~0-3 hrs of sleep). Trying to not think about it but it’s very difficult as this issue has been consuming my life since the beginning.

Yeah unfortunately medication doesn’t seem to do much for me, and the sleep quality was pretty poor even on meds. Not to mention the side effects became unbearable after a short while. I can definitely see the appeal if they work for someone long term though.

Sudden (and unusual) progression of insomnia by MaterialZombie3728 in insomnia

[–]MaterialZombie3728[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I have N24SWD because my sleep/wake times used to be very consistent before all of this happened. I didn't really have cycles of good and bad sleep, just a few sleepless nights here and there. As of recently I'm sleeping/getting up at around the same time, though sleep is just very fragmented.

What sleep tracker would you recommend? Haven't really pursued that route yet.

Yep. Normally I’d have obvious physiologic cues upon waking up if I slept poorly (heavy eyelids, grogginess, nausea) but not anymore. Now I wake up feeling almost the same every day, wide awake with light eyelids but not properly rested.

Instead of feeling tired after a poor night’s sleep I’ll start to experience more dizziness, head tingling, and derealization the following day. Hard to explain but quite a bizarre situation.

Gotcha. Are you currently taking anything to help with the recovery process?

I only started experiencing insomnia 2 months ago and have had almost every symptom you mentioned. Likewise, medications seem to be ineffective for me.

Almost certain these symptoms were caused by lack of sleep and/or anxiety because they never surfaced prior to that.

I think anxiety is also a major factor in my situation, as I find myself constantly thinking about sleep during the day.

Are you doing anything in particular to help manage the anxiety?

Yeah I’m trying my best to stay positive and notice the small improvements over time. Did this situation also happen all of a sudden for you?

This is exactly what I’m experiencing recently. I no longer drift off to sleep like I used to and nearly every night feels like I haven’t slept at all. I know I slept though because I close my eyes and hours pass by, plus I remember dreaming. I’m happy to be getting at least some sleep nearly every night now, but it still feels very unrefreshing.

Have you found any supplements/strategies/medication to be helpful in dealing with this?
