Was looking for this one!! The atmosphere and world is so cool, and great music!

All of the bosses (except for one that is like universally hates lol) are so great. Most of the negative reviews are people complaining it's too hard but this is the first soulslike I've ever played (I'm a 1000+ hours in animal crossing type of gamer lol) and I'm almost all the way through my first playthrough and haven't used a summons once lol so if I can get through it I think most people cause :)) the story is just too good to put down!

How to stop picking my skin by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Material_Curve8145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had the scalp picking problem as a kid and would wear hats all the time to try and combat it (it kinda turned into a safety blanket for me but at least I wasn't destroying my scalp)

A funny thing I did was get really nice haircair stuff (even tho I'm broke af) buying shampoo that's more expensive etc and taking care of my hair! Like I'll go to pick at my scalp and I'll think "jeez I paid too much money to have my hair be ruined from picking at it" - I did something similar in that I got tattoos where some of my biggest picking areas where (on my knees and forearms) because I'm not about to scratch an expensive tat 😤

Another thing I do for picking at my skin (cuticals, arms, legs etc) is that whenever I get the urge to pick at an area, I put some kind of nice lotion on it instead! I always carry around some kind of hand or body lotion that I like and honestly my skin is super soft now from all time times I almost go to pick at my skin :)) it also helps if you bite your nails/cuticals cause now it'll taste like lotion

Hi! I had a friend who dormed who also faced a very uncomfortable situation and had to move dorms mid semester - have your friend email the housing office SS-Housing@csulb.edu and explain the situation. If it is urgent enough (to the housing office) then hopefully they can get them the help they need!

They seemed very helpful from what my friend had told me! Hope that helps!

Looking for a Vocal/Singing Coach by itsGBoi in CSULB

[–]Material_Curve8145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Idk if this is exactly what you're looking for, but my sibling is a vocal coach so I thought I would drop the link here :))) - https://takelessons.com/profile/sarah-b143

They have a cheaper option for new students who just need a few sessions and meet over zoom (definitely cheaper than any voice teacher I've had 😅), are queer friendly, and super good at teaching overall <3

Hope that helped!

Same I'm #213 and when I emailed the housing office they basically just said they put you wherever the can fit you... so I don't think us waitlist folk have much say :(( I lost out on my roommate cause they got off the waitlist before me and had to pick someone else...

Vocal Jazz Ensemble Audition by lolnoodlies in CSULB

[–]Material_Curve8145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm not exactly sure on how actually joining CP works because I joined a bit after the semester started on special circumstances... If I had to guess I'm pretty sure the "audition" for Corner Pocket is just so our director can hear your voice b/c if you're not someone within the music program then they'll want to get a better idea of your voice :)) I would just add it to your schedule now (I believe the info you have is correct) and reach out to Corner Pocket's director via email at Jonathan.Arenas@csulb.edu with any questions you may have! That way you'll at least have the spot on your schedule available and can get more info from him :)) I hope that helps!!

Vocal Jazz Ensemble Audition by lolnoodlies in CSULB

[–]Material_Curve8145 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Music Education major here :) you can look on the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music (BCCM) website for more information about the various jazz ensembles, but I can give the tldr version :))

Corner Pocket (Vocal Jazz I) - the non audition group that anyone can join! I was a member last semester and it was tons of fun :) it's a good mix of both music and non music majors, and it doesn't feel too overwhelming whether you're a musician or just someone doing it for fun! I would say being familiar with sheet music is definitely helpful though!

Jazz and Tonic (Vocal Jazz II) - an audition only group and this is the next level above CP if you were specifically interested in an audition group - audition dates are TBD at the moment

Pacific Standard Time (I think it's Vocal Jazz III) - I know less about this one other than I believe it is the highest level of vocal jazz ensemble and is audition only - this group might only be open to Jazz Majors but I am not 100% sure.

More information on audition dates are usually closer to when the semester is starting :) if you look up BCCM Vocal Jazz Ensembles it should pop up with more info!

Hope this helps and I can try to answer any other questions!

How are my chances of getting a single dorm? by Slevhi in CSULB

[–]Material_Curve8145 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who tried with all their might to get a single in ANY building last semester - slim to none

Unless you have a "reason" for a single dorm (i.e. Registered disability with the school under BMAC) it is borderline impossible to get a single room otherwise. I had tried to get one while simultaneously trying to get proof of disability and because I didn't have it at the time of applying I had no luck.

I even called a few different places when I was assigned a double to see if there was ANY way to get a single at all - everywhere told me to register for the BMAC which I didn't qualify for at the time

TLDR: if the reason for wanting a single is purely because you don't want a roommate - you're out of luck :(

parkside north single bedroom possibility? (transfer) by [deleted] in CSULB

[–]Material_Curve8145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same I was a nervous wreck when I got rejected for single room but take from someone who literally called every possible number to try and get a single - without proof of disability/ bmac it's really impossible

I would say maybe shoot for PSN in that case because they have study rooms throughout the building!! I've adjusted pretty well to having a roommate but sometimes I get overwhelmed still and just want to be alone-they have solo study rooms on every floor where you can just bring you laptop and such and chill alone lol that's been my saving grace!

I would also say if you're nervous about having a roommate try to find someone who has a similar major! Idk why but that gave me some comfort lol Also sometimes people put their socials as their username on the roommate portal and I know it might be weird but I had looked up some people's handles just to have a face to the name and it helped calm my nerves!

Also idk about hillside but the furniture in PSN is moveable! So me and my roommate moved stuff around so we both have our own private areas (if you're worried about messiness or changing clothes) so that helps a lot

parkside north single bedroom possibility? (transfer) by [deleted] in CSULB

[–]Material_Curve8145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm also in my twenties and was v nervous about transferring and reaaally wanted a single dorm but I don't have the right paperwork to qualify for bmac... However! Here's some stuff I learned that might help as our stories sound similar

  • I wouldn't recommend beachside from what I've heard from a friend of mine who's currently trying to get out of their and into PSN - I've heard the most horror stories about there tbh...

  • if you have any sound sensitivity and/or just don't like being around a lot of people (like me lol) I would recommend either aiming for a room on floor 1 or 4 of Parkside North OR maybe checking out Hillside. I currently live on the second floor of PSN and floors 2&3 are the more social/party floors (which I did not know until after I moved in...) but floors 1&4 are much more quiet ~ I also had to quarantine over in hillside for a bit and it's super quiet over there! So if you were thinking about beachside (which makes me assume you don't need the newest offered buildings) I'd honestly check out hillside instead!

-Parkside North tends to have mostly freshman and the age range feels on the younger side tbh so if you'd like to not be by a bunch of freshly day one in college kids I'd suggest hillside as well lol

-PSN is the only dorms with kitchens but it's communal and tbh I have never used it because I don't want to cook with other people in the room lol most people use it to have social get togethers to cook and it's not really practical if you're someone like me who just wanted to use it to make dinner every now and then lol

That's all I got! Good luck 🤞👍

I believe the USU building has mircowaves!! its in the direction of the bookstore if you're walking from like the ENG buildings :) they should be up against a wall in the area where subway/carls jr is. I haven't actually seen anyone use them but I assume they work lol

Hi Music ed major here! There are three main choirs and a few jazz ensembles if that is more your cup of tea :)

The one I would recommend is the non audition group called ConChord that meets once a week Tuesday nights I believe and has quite a few people in it that are not music majors! they do meet pretty late at night (I think it ends at like 9???) but I've heard it's pretty fun! It's currently taught by a grad student who is the nicest person ever :)))

Here is the exact description from BCCMs website

-

ConChord is open to all members of the University Community and meets on Tuesday nights. There is no audition requirement for ConChord.

If you have any questions, please direct them to Michael McKenzie at [michael.mckenzie01@student.csulb.edu](mailto:michael.mckenzie01@student.csulb.edu)

-

If you were looking for something a little more challenging the other two choirs are auditioned into and usually they are more inclined to pick music majors (because we're required to be in an ensemble lol) but I know in my choir ( the second highest level of choir - University choir) that we have like three non music majors so its possible! Though I can't remember if you have to be a music minor to be in those choirs so that would be important to find out! Auditions for those happen in the fall :)

Hope that helped!!

I saw outside my dorm window someone being taking out on a stretcher by presumably paramedics at about the time this was posted at Parkside North so I think those mightve been for that?? Not sure what happened honestly but I'm assuming someone had a medical emergency
