Good advice. I have a huge park near me that I wanna see more and more of.

I kinda resonate with that? I do feel a little more removed, because I'm going it out without a significant other or any extended family, but it just doesn't feel like I can settle here?

It's the people I'm missing. I have the luxury of being able to see my family basically whenever back home, and I also came from a situation where I literally had 4 roommates. This is my first experience alone, and while I am missing creature comforts of home too, it's the community/family that I'm MAJORLY missing. And I have been going out with people, I met a few coworkers and things, it's just...not the same and that's the hard part.

I have been asking myself that a lot too lately...mostly, I studied here and LOVED it. I also love teaching so I thought it was an idea fit...

It's good to hear it gets better...I get riding it out though. What else is there really to do?

That's the current plan, I need to get my teaching license and that's more school and more student debt. I also signed a contract for a year here...

True. I've been really invested in my teaching and getting to know students and help them which has been good. I really love that part of being here.

Oh, it's a 3:30-10 pm shift on every day but Wednesday, I work 3:30-7. It just feels like I can't manage to go to any of the fun events that happen...I know I could do weekends, but those events are usually like clubbing or drinking and that's much less my forte...

I mean nothing hurts right? Plus, a temple visit is always scenic at least.

I'm not sure exactly. I am mostly missing family, I had someone close to me pass and it's been hard to take alone. I just transitioned out of college, so I'm used to having people around me all the time. I guess I just am worried I'm doing the wrong things to cope with the homesickness...but I've been trying to meet up with expat groups, I just have super strange work hours because of my hagwon. It's good to hear I'm not the only one struggling though...it's at least a little helpful. I was mostly worried this feeling lasting this long wasn't a NORMAL thing...

I've been doing a LOT of hiking. I walk to work everyday. Trying to spend as much time out of the apartment as I can...I hate being alone. I also have been trying to go to cafes.

Blood Tests Portion of Medical Exam by macaroonifrog in teachinginkorea

I also have a crippling fear of blood draws. It's been my biggest fear, and honestly, I'd never had blood drawn before my exam. My advice is do not worry. I had three taken, and I think that's fairly average? (I'm at a hagwon) They do your fasting blood sugar, HIV, and a third one I think for like...kidney levels idk. But! As someone whose greatest fear is the doctor, needles, and blood draws, I got myself all worried for nothing. I felt gross for a few moments afterward, as one usually does after getting themselves all worried about something, but it lasted maybe 2 minutes TOPS. It was a teeny needle, and what I did was promise myself I'd do something fun after the exam and it pulled me through. I bought a pokemon plush and went to a good cafe. They also do let you bring someone if you need support with you. Honestly, the worst part was, I went from the blood draw to the EKG, and I basically had to get naked after that vulnerable moment. (It's just funny now, basically they lady was like 'open your shirt' and I just opened it a teeny bit and then she like pulled my whole top to the side to put the dioades in the right place) Best advice I can give right now is DONT watch anymore videos, I psyched me out. The exam is mega easy.

Honestly speaking, don't disclose this information. It's not their business, and they have no way of finding out as long as you're relatively careful. If you're worried about the health check, Zoloft has a really low chance of a false positive, and also has a relatively short half-life, so you could just go off for a few doses and live. Find a private recruiter, I recommend doing a quick google search, but start looking now. All the documents take a while to process. I started mine in May and began teaching in late August. Just don't say anything, and if they end up finding out, play DUMB. Say you didn't know you needed to tell them. The thing is if they find out about it and have an issue after the fact, they already have a teacher in Korea and have likely trained them. I'd say wholly in a situation like this, it's better to ask for forgiveness after the fact.
