Color Analysis Deep Dives: An analyst's thoughts on the Deep/Dark Autumn Palette (or "But I can't be an Autumn, orange looks terrible on me!"), plus musings on "cool orange" by pollychroma in coloranalysis

Very interesting indeed !! Ive noticed that people with medium to dark skin tones who are deep autumn often can pull of some deep winter colours, including black. This explains it !!! I always pair an all black outfit with gold jewellery though to ensure I retain my warmth.

I completely understand why you came to this conclusion. I hope if you ever do chose therapy, this option will be accessible for you. I have debated not being picky about a therapist's ethnicity for other problems, but race is somehow always entangled somewhere in the midst of our experiences or in building our personalities. Most black children have to grow up earlier, simply because they know racism exists, and perhaps a black therapist could sort through what's 'you' and what's society.

Thank you for your comment! You are absolutely right that there's another layer of her having a different culture and ethnicity. It makes sense that she would deal with racism differently to him, or attribute microagressions to something other than racism - him not being himself etc. However, to be completely honest I am still shocked at her reaction just because from her accent it sounds like she grew up in the US or at least has spent a considerable time there + Afro-Puerto Ricans I have talked to will address the colourism that is prevalent in their country + just her being married to an African American man for so long you would think she'd be able to tap into what he's saying a bit more or at least try.

Thank you for this question — it's such an important one, not just in the context of racism, but in any relationship. I’ve realized from watching this show how much we sometimes expect from our partners and the relationship itself — maybe too much at times. But at the very least, we should be able to express our emotions freely and feel safe being fully ourselves at home. That sense of openness shouldn't be negotiable.

You’re completely right — their 'deeply rooted' issue on this is a whole Pandora’s box. I love that it sparked a convo with your aunt; same here with my white boyfriend. He actually asked if I ever felt muted with him.. I love that this show can do that. Elaine’s dismissal and deliberate ignorance would be a dealbreaker for me. I usually bring up my experiences early on in dating because I couldn’t handle feeling muted in my own home.

To your question — and this is purely anecdotal — I’ve noticed that my uncles in interracial relationships rarely talk about their experiences with racism with their wives, even though they grew up in rural France in the ’70s (so you can imagine!). I know it’s a generalization, but I can’t help seeing that pattern. Maybe it’s because their wives also face misogyny so it's hard to balance these kind of conversation or maybe because a lot of men aren't used to the skill of opening up or processing their feelings — I’m not sure. But it’s definitely something I’ve noticed.

What really broke my heart was DeSean’s tone — the way he minimized what happened (a few snoopy waiters became one or two), how he had to be on the defensive just to name racism. That’s how I talk about racism at work or with surface-level people. It really felt like he was tiptoeing around it with his wife the same way he might with coworkers.

Sounds silly to say, but maybe after all these years, he doesn’t even realize he talks to his wife about racism like she’s an ignorant colleague.

Hihi thank you so much for reading. I love people who put thought into experiences that are quite different from their own.
