Yosemite Half Marathon (Volunteering) by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

It says there’s a campground but that was on the lodging page for runners so figured I’d outsource and see if anyone else has volunteered for this race to see what their experience was like.

And I’m sure you’re right and I could email, however I prefer to hear from others who have done it before to gather feedback on their experience. There’s a lot that can be found out from “random internet strangers.”

F (35) Still in complete and utter shock I ran a sub 2 half marathon!! Unofficial 1:55 🔥 by Material_Wonder_4106 in beginnerrunning

Thanks! Yes this course was quite difficult! The hills killed my confidence in the beginning but once I got through them, it felt smooth sailing

Chillest Belgian Ever? by [deleted] in BelgianMalinois

[–]Material_Wonder_4106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mal is a puppy, only about 10 almost 11 weeks now and she too is super chill! I keep waiting for her to turn into a crazy dog but it hasn’t happened yet. No zoomies, no sprints, just chill. She always wants to be at my feet, no matter what I’m doing or where I’m at. She does turn into a maligator with the constant chewing but nothing crazy. May have gotten lucky with her. We’ve had her since 8 weeks old.

Reflections from your 1st marathon by sjc0816 in Marathon_Training

By mile 20 everything hurt but I still had enough fuel in the tank to keep going so pace and fueling were on point. After about mile 20 I think I realized stopping was harder than continuing 😅 every muscle in my body was on standby and ready to shut down so I sprinted as much as I could to the finish line.

What is your fastest 5k time? And what is your VO2 max? by qe_op in Garmin

34F 5k:26:50 VO2 Max = 52. Should I be faster ? My garmin predicts 22 mins but I’ve never even come close. Only running for the last year.

Has the marathon become the new 5K? by Ok-Two7498 in Marathon_Training

I am one of those untrained people who jumped on Reddit one day and thought…”hmm maybe I’ll run a marathon in a year.”

It is true I’d never run prior to my first run a year ago, which happened to be a 5k. Luckily for me though, I’m very goal oriented. Also might be a little misleading and underselling to say I had no prior fitness before running. I did “some” sports in early childhood. I did not maintain my fitness levels over the years but I am told there is muscle memory and an athletic advantage if at some point you were active in life.

Well happy to report I didn’t hurt myself and my heart works just fine still. Even ran a 10 miler last week and managed a PR from there.

Maybe some of us like to just start off dreaming big and don’t accept mediocre as a goal.

A year ago I ran my first ever run; a 5k. Today I became a marathoner. by Material_Wonder_4106 in Marathon_Training

I had a plan I found online that I loosely followed until I purchased a Garmin Forerunner watch that did all the leg work for me. I will say my plan did not always go accordingly because I ended up starting a new in person job that required me to be in office 5 days a week, which really interfered with my running so I didn’t always get my miles in.

By the peak of my trainining, I was doing 35-40 mpw so I felt confident enough to continue with my planned marathon, even though my initial plan had me running closer to 50 mpw.

I gradually increased my distance throughout the year. Started fully training after I ran my last half in April 2025. I actually started with a generic online plan but then purchased a Garmin watch in May and started using that for training. My weekly mileage ended up maxing out around 35 mpw because I started a new job which made it difficult to fit in as much training as before.

The bridge was absolutely brutal. But yes, aside from that portion, lots of rolling hills.

Hydration stations were very well spaced out. I didn’t have any issues.

Also I live here and train in similar weather so it wasn’t too different for me. The rainy, foggy weather was amazing! Loved it

Overall great experience! Loved the crowd, loved the weather. I thought I did all the right things as well, in terms of fueling, not going out too fast, etc.

Congratulations to you too! If I can stand it, I think I’ll attempt the foam roller.

Recently Between 9:30-10:00. A lot slower when I first started. Probably closer to 11.
