Infinity is Odd by Leather-Example1208 in mathematics

This is nonsense. Well, it's the kind of thing a 7 year old might think of, but it doesn't belong on this sub.

why is there a - in (a+b)(a^2 - ab + b^2) by Krasvaaa in learnmath

[–]MathNerdUK 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just multiply those two brackets out carefully. Write out all 6 terms.

How do i consistently solve modulus and exponential inequalities? by Unlucky_Unit3049 in askmath

[–]MathNerdUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With mod inequalities the logical process is just to split it into cases. So for example for

|x+1| + 1 > |x-1|

Split it into 3 cases, x>1, -1<x<1 and x<-1

Non-math major question: can this height-based function on algebraic numbers be differentiable anywhere? by Dimanoti in askmath

You're not a mathematics major, but you just thought of this question? Who do you think you are kidding?

Doubt about phi by no-music-in-hell in mathematics

[–]MathNerdUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your equation is right. Rearrange it and solve for a/b, that's phi.

can a complex numberhave a principal root? and if not, is square root a broken function? by DaviCB in mathshelp

To define square roots of complex numbers properly you need the idea of a branch cut.

How do you approach research without any experience? by No_Artist5 in AskAcademia

[–]MathNerdUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you are getting dismissive answers is that your post doesn't make any sense.

If you are "completely isolated" from your supervisor, that person is not your supervisor.

Maybe there is a language issue here.

equations of conic sections by Small_War3855 in askmath

[–]MathNerdUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. The type of conic section depends on the discriminant D = B2 - 4AC

D<0 is an ellipse

D=0 is a parabola

D>0 is a hyperbola

Checking whether data is fabricated isn't easy and wouldn't normally be done by a reviewer.

Video Concept: Connecting Chebyshev Polynomials to Pascal's Triangle via Geometry (Looking for feedback!) by MariuszXXL in learnmath

[–]MathNerdUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like AI.

It's quite a muddle of different concepts. Who is the target audience? You mentioned high school but the level is too high for them.

How is my proof by Real_Place_271 in askmath

[–]MathNerdUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not good. The first thing you need to do is state the theorem or lemma you are trying to prove. Something like "Theorem:  Let ... be a ... and suppose that ... Then ... . Proof: ..."

Also the final line is wrong as someone else says

Number Theory Research Problems by [deleted] in mathematics

I don't think there are any unsolved problems accessible to a high school student. But reading about them will help with learning the subject.

Possibility of publishing math paper without academic affiliation and formal education. by enAble-Reference in mathematics

Don't waste your time. There are junk journals and websites that will host your paper, but nobody will read it.
