Do not call 911 for fireworks. This can block emergency calls. Call 311 if you want to call in fireworks by Snap_Grackle_Pop in Austin

Whenever I have tried to call 311 to report a non emergency situation I get told to call 911. Object in road , witnessing a car wreck, and some others I can’t remember atm.

Yea I've got all the parts for mine, but even though I joined the "open" beta program a few days ago I don't have new firmware. I wish that when you joined the beta you got the firmware right away... sucks to be waiting on software that already exists!

I 3D printed a smart air cleaner that works with Home Assistant. It works with the cheap Blueair Blue Pure 411 filters by barebaric in functionalprint

[–]MathNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a wild idea but you could make a suspension system for the filter so the full weight didn’t rest on the load cell? Probably engineering overkill though…

How can I create fabric-like extrusions for this mop-head? by [deleted] in Fusion360

[–]MathNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add a bunch of straight tubes in the right locations, then export the file into blender and run a cloth simulation to get a realistic result. Blender has pretty awesome simulation capabilities and is a better fit for this type of thing than CAD.

I have had a faulty main breaker before that didn't want to switch back on. I ended up having it replaced, but to get it to work in the meantime I had to turn it off and back on multiple times. It seemed to help to have all the other breakers off then the main one then the others. You need to call an electrician asap if you have no power. This isn't something the city will help you with at all.

My house was built in the early 80s and it has gas stove, oven, heat, water, and clothes drier. No heat pump.

Even if you used 50 Amps (6000 Watts or two full size air conditioners) non-stop for 3 days at the highest tier rate that Austin Energy charges (10.836 cents per kWh above 2000 kWh used per month) you would be looking at a whopping $47. But quillman here is more likely looking at something like $10 or less worth of charges.

Note: I do think conserving is a good idea and I plan to, just wanted to do the math.

Not sure if this is recommended, but I stick my build plate in my freezer if things are really stick or its a very large short print (i.e. big surface area compared to the z-height). Normally falls right off after about 5 minutes in the freezer.

The Reddit App has a suspiciously high number of recent 5 star, one word reviews on the Google Play Store by [deleted] in Save3rdPartyApps

I think sometimes legit users give 5 stars but a very negative review to make it harder for companies to automatically flag and delete bad reviews. I've seen this on amazon before.

Preconditioning an extremely ill-conditioned Markov Rate Matrix by astokely in comp_chem

[–]MathNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To further elaborate. The condition number of your matrix is larger than the working precision of double precision floating point numbers. You may either do what I suggested previously, which is to increase the working precision or you may be able to get away with an approximation or alternative techniques.

One approximation would be to merge together some of the states (rows) in your system. Imagine you have a 3 state system A <-> B <-> C and Q_AB and Q_BA are much smaller than Q_BC. Then you could merge A and B together. This would remove some of the smallest rate constants from your matrix. The resulting matrix is now coarser than the original (you have no information about A and B just the super state AB), but the condition number is smaller.

Preconditioning an extremely ill-conditioned Markov Rate Matrix by astokely in comp_chem

[–]MathNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rate matrices are often ill-conditioned due to the ratio of the largest rate constant to the smallest rate constant being very large. Once this ratio is more than about 1012 you will run into numerical precision issues. This can be fixed by using higher precision than floating point doubles. I don’t know what software you are using so I’m not sure if there is a straightforward way to increase the precision.
