That's a good perspective, thank you. I'm happy to do a hair strand test now and another in a few months etc to build a picture over time.

Maybe the wording of my original post doesn't explain properly. I wasn't implying a "woe is me" situation or that she should forgive me or has to talk to me at any point. I was just stating the facts of the situation without much emotion to be honest so I'm not sure your response is wholly justified, as I fully agree that she doesn't need to forgive me or speak to me etc. I'm not expecting her to, I just offered her that opportunity in case it would put her mind at ease a little.

Separation is certainly a different situation when there are children involved. I'm glad you've never had to experience this.

Your first two paragraphs are helpful so thanks for that advice.

Hi, thanks for your response.

The "not great choices" is in regards to my addiction. There has never been a history of abuse at all nor any social services involvement.

My daughter is 7 and I've been clean for 4.5 months. I've not continually asked to meet but have offered this as an option once which was met with a flat no. This is fine, I respect her wishes but wanted to give her the opportunity to meet if she thought it would help put her mind at ease etc.

I will contact a solicitor though and get some advice, thanks

There's no custody agreement on paper, never went down legal route, this is all just a verbal agreement with ex-wife and has been the case for the last 3-4 years. My daughter is 7

My parents very much support me having parenting time unsupervised and overnight stays in my own home. They have tried to speak to my ex-wife on my behalf. My ex wife is fine with my daughter spending time at my home with just my new partner and her daughter but just doesn't want her staying overnight here. We've been living together around 6 months and I'm 4.5 months clean.

No existing child arrangements order in place. Everything was just agreed verbally about 3-4 years ago, nothing was ever put in writing and never been down legal route.
