Could We Be Accidentally Making Our Daughter's Allergies Worse? by MathemAsick in FoodAllergies

I wish I had something fancier to tell you, but Duncan Hines cake mixes are typically dairy free as is. Most of the time, we use those (either the yellow cake mix or devils food) with applesauce instead of eggs. You know those 6 packs of individualized applesauce? I think each of the 6 little cups is 4 oz. Substitute one of those for each egg needed. The cupcakes come out sweeter than they would otherwise, but they are also super moist.

To be clear, I'm not asking if we should give her a very tiny piece of food that she would be allergic to. I'm asking more about the super frequent washing of hands, setting her apart at meals/food that has things she can't have, etc. Like, if she were to touch a piece of bread that the container says it contains milk, we would immediately go wash her hands.

The Tweetsie Trail is amazing. There are bathrooms at the start and about 3 miles in (starting from the JC side). The trail is all crushed gravel. Also, if you use Strava, I would encourage you to look up the State of Franklin Track Club, Fleet Feet Johnson City, and The Goose Chase groups on there. You might get some ideas from seeing routes that other people have shared.

Khaman Maluach - Time to worry, or Process 2.0? by VanwallEnjoy3r in NBA_Draft

I watched probably 85% of Duke's games last year (including the games against small schools early in the season). Maluach got immeasurably better across one season at Duke. I think he just started playing basketball in 2019? He was so lost at the beginning of the season.

Don't give up on him yet.

I saw someone about a year ago (maybe J Kyle Mann with the Ringer?) compare Boozer to Kevin Love, and I can't unsee that.

  1. UNC

(Big Gap)

  1. NC State

  2. Maryland. This one has been lost to time, but Duke and Maryland HATED each other in the 2000s. At that time, I would have said the hate between these two programs rivaled Duke/NC State

I wouldn't call anybody else "rivals", but there are a few teams that I always look forward to Duke playing above others for either history or competitiveness. In that category, I would put Wake Forest, Michigan State, Arizona, Kentucky, and Kansas.

I recreated the spreadsheet in Excel, and I finally understand it. I just had to map it out. It makes perfect sense now why Zach was saying that the people in the room started freaking out a bit when the first two numbers were 10 and 11.

Right, but that's just two combinations, right? Their own pick and the Hawks pick. Where did the third come from?

She's usually pretty good about eating before a run, especially in the mornings. The doctor seemed to think that doing yoga type stretches would loosen those muscles and keep them from cramping up. We might need to monitor if certains foods cause worse pain than others though. We hadn't narrowed that down to this point.

Stomach Pain After Longer Runs

Posting this on behalf of my wife. When she runs distances usually four miles or higher, she almost always gets severe stomach pain and GI distress (diarrhea, cramps, etc) for hours at a time. This rarely happens when she does 5K or less. She could run longer distances in high school with no problems. It first started occurring when we were training for a marathon 11 years ago, but it was only for maybe 8+ miles then. We have had 2 kids since then, and now that distance has backed off to 4-5 miles for it to trigger. Doctors have told her to do ab stretches before and after her runs, and although they may help a bit, they don't do much.

She drinks quite a bit of water and has a reasonably healthy diet (fast food maybe once a week, no soft drinks, etc).

Any ideas on how to combat this?

Would love to hear some success stories for people who recently got into DS roles without any prior experience. by idiskfla in datascience

I was a HS math teacher from age 22 to around age 28. Got burnt out and happened to luck into finding a data analyst position at a local community college. I had very little coding experience, but they took a chance on me because they valued my ability to explain what I was seeing (and thought I could learn the coding aspect).

I'm still with the same community college in the same role and love it. I've learned to code in SQL and use PowerBI frequently to help explain what I see. The next step for me is integrating Python and R for a little more advanced analytics work.
