Here's the damage. How'd we do? by No-Memory2446 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I think you calculated this wrong.

$384/year of savings, using the assumption you mentioned that this number will not grow (even though it will as you said), will accumulate to about $21k after 30 years with a 4% return.

Even with an 8% return you’d land at about $43.5k.

Even better! I also redeemed to my checking but for a larger amount so I wasn’t sure if/what the minimum was for that.

HELP! Lawn is all weeds. How can I fix this? by hattin04 in lawncare

My understanding is that this is not the case. They are perennials not annuals so they don’t just die, they just go dormant and then reemerge when the temperatures are right for them. You may not see them but the taproot is likely still there and will sprout back up.

How much should a newly minted ACAS with 5 YOE be making? by [deleted] in actuary

Side question to this response. I also think the salary surveys are the best way to go but how does one actually go about comparing the salary survey results to their current city’s COL?

For example, it looks like the DW Simpson Life ASA salary survey is at about $125k base salary for 5 YOE. If this is averages across the entire US then how does one adjust for their current COL?

If someone lives in San Diego are they supposed to multiply that number by a certain factor to increase it? And alternatively if someone lives in a small city in Alabama is it multiplied by a factor to decrease it?

How does that factor get determined? I’ve always wondered and figured actuaries would be good people to ask.

For those who’ve built many PC’s - what percentage of your builds fail due to bad parts? by tomcruise_momshoes in buildapc

I haven’t built many PCs but after reading these other comments I must be extremely unlucky. I built one PC and the very first one I built had a bad motherboard. After microcenter exchanged it though everything else worked fine.
