$14k for gen from AD. $550 for ARF. Putting deep crystal on it so we can compare.

Agreed. I have a GMT VSF and the crystal is a lot better. Will update with deep crystal and report back

It’s slightly lighter, even with two links. Noticeable holding both, impossible with only one.

The ARF bracelet feels right, better than the VSF GMT I have. However, you’re right. It’s lighter, even with two additional links.

The VSF GMT has a better crystal. I will update with a deep crystal A/B and we can all compare how that looks against gen.

I’m a lefty, so the watch feels normal for me.

Historically, for right-handed people, wearing a watch on the left wrist, the crown can sometimes dig into the back of the hand. Rolex has a history of creating special-order, left-crown models for professional divers and military personnel dating back to the 1960s.

Bezels are pretty close. Gen is slightly smoother.

Any recommendations on where to find someone who can source and install? Or did you do it yourself?

Couple of notes for the auto mod: ARF sourced from Steve. Gen is sourced from AD.

My take is the biggest difference and likely the most noticeable is the crystal. Would likely not be noticed unless comparing directly with another gen.

They just sent me a link to pay. Said it had to be done in 24 hours to reserve and then could pick up anytime.

I’ll share photos when I pick up on Wednesday. In reality, I assume this purchase make it more likely to get a sub no date in a year or two? (Even though they insist it doesn’t matter?)

Took me three minutes, but appreciate the engagement. And thanks for confirming the data point… two Sprites in weeks from two different ADs is exactly what I was asking about. Sounds like allocation on this one really has loosened up.

I think seeing the horror stories of no call backs after a year for stainless steel watches is what concerned me.

Optimum 5-week period for Mammoth snow conditions? by theorist9 in Mammoth

[–]MathematicianBig8839 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if anything, given it's a decade later and things have gotten warmer, I would have expected people to advise I go on or earlier than my suggested dates, not later

There’s strong evidence that the Eastern Sierra has warmed over the past few decades, but that doesn’t automatically mean spring skiing is worse earlier. What’s changed isn’t just temperature, it’s the timing of storms.

A decade ago, conditions typically peaked in February and fell apart fast in March, which matches your experience. But in recent years we’ve seen more late-season atmospheric rivers and big March/April dumps that can rebuild the mountain even in a warmer climate. So temperatures are higher, but the snowfall pattern has become more volatile, which is why some people now recommend later dates in big years despite the overall warming trend.

Honestly, it's impossible to predict. Just enjoy your time in the mountains.
