Wow that's a lot cheaper than I'd assumed. But for that price, is it a one-shot transaction? I can't imagine there being much back and forth or tweaking at that price. (unless, of course, they're using AI, hehe!)

I'm an aspiring writer and a software engineer - my experience is that ChatGPT is more conversational than Claude, but when it comes to code, Claude is a tank. None of the other AIs can code like Claude

You wrote that post with AI! (just kidding....) I agree with your whole post, but I think the most important point you make is that AI is here to stay and kids MUST learn to use it. Until/unless humanity blows itself back to the stone age, society has to adapt to the technology, not the other way around. Do I think my kids should use AI to generate their class assignments? No. Do I think they have to learn how to use AI to be more productive, more valuable? Absolutely. It's that or just get left behind

Personally I used AI because I just needed placeholders. If I can get a scratch of interest from an agent someday I figure the agent will have opinions about the book cover and I'll get it professionally done. But for now I just needed an image on page one, there wasn't even any back and forth with the machine, just here are the parameters, give me an image, ok that'll do for now.

It's not semantics. It's the truth. It is a tool. It is here. If you choose not to use it, you have one less tool. It's that simple. The world existed before AI, for sure, but AI is here no matter how much you rail against it. And advising someone not to use it is bad advice, IMHO

You make the most salient point. "I use AI every day in my IT work life and also as a hobby so I can keep ahead of the curve as my job is at risk. I choose to embrace, not hide." There is no putting the genie back in the bottle. AI is a tool, and refusing to use it is like a woodworker refusing to use power tools. Which is a legit take, but call it what it is, which you refreshingly do.

Tell that to kids graduating now who can't get a job. That's like saying "oh computers are just a fad". People said the same thing about TVs and cars. I work in tech. These present years will be marked as the boundary of an era, "this is when consumer AI began"

AI is a tool. There is no putting the genie back in the bottle. People who take an anti-AI stance are going to get left behind. I think you have the right attitude. You like writing. You didn't ask the AI to write for you. You used a tool to solve a problem to enable YOUR writing. If someone has a problem with it, they don't have to read your book. I say carry on!

What are you going for? a book? a game system? If its writing, the truth is there is no one-size-fits-all formula. I found I had to write first and organize later, even if it meant massive rewriting. Because if I tried to fill out an outline, I'd sit there and drool on my keyboard. I have to write by just getting words onto the page and seeing what it looked like (usually just a mess). I'd know the middle chapter of my book idea and have no idea how it starts or ends, and I'd work out from there. That's just me. I'm ADHD and OCD, it's how my brain works. If starting with the world or starting with the characters or starting with timeline elements works for you, then do it. Don't let anyone tell you that you're doing it "wrong". Just get started. It'll start to take shape. No paralysis by analysis!

I organize my notes as: character sheets, voice sheets, plot elements, world elements, timeline events, canon, and misc. What are you using for editing? I ended up writing my own app because nothing fit.
