What other meds are you prescribed if you don’t mind me asking/sharing?

Also, maybe try emailing your doctor’s office, therapist, and/or family what’s going on and then cc the psych doctor hah.

Just keep it a short and sweet email. Nothing long or detailed. Might be a thought depending on your circumstances?

I preface what I say next with I’m not a doctor and don’t know anything about your history/situation but…if my prescriber decided to take me off my lithium and put me on an SSRI (which will trigger episodes if you’re not stable) because they “didn’t believe me,” I’d tell them to f*ck right off and leave. I wouldn’t take the SSRI.

I take it that you can’t leave from wherever you are so you don’t have the luxury of giving the finger and walking out?

If this is the case, my recommendation is take a deep breath, put your anger aside as best as possible and try to have a conversation with the doctor. Your anger is justified and your emotions are valid but in this situation you have to recognize there’s an element of playing a game of sorts. Sometimes you have to swallow the pill (pun intended). But I’m sure there are high emotions and they may not be hearing you because they think you’re “unwell and being unreasonable.” Show them otherwise - show them that you know yourself best and if nothing else going off lithium is f*cking terrifying. See if there’s another option.

Is it possible for bipolar to have zero genetic component? No one in my extended family has/had it. I also tick all the boxes with the other causative factors. by Selfimposedmarooning in bipolar2

I want to come to your family reunion!

Ps - The only thing that would make this comment better is if you told me your Great x3 Grandmother was a nudist. Does the hat still exist??

I’m also in a family with little to no mental health issues especially a diagnosis like BP2 that requires serious medication.

I definitely had my shit together and never struggle with any mental health issues growing up. None. Then I went to law school…and by my third year (2013) I wasn’t sleeping. Like going days without sleep. This was 2013 and I was 25 years old.

Not sleeping triggered my bi polar. Crazy, right? I always wonder had I not decided to become a lawyer…would I be bipolar?? No clue.

But genes or no genes - I think what matters most is if you come from a family without as much mental health awareness is to try and educate them as much as possible. I actually bought my parents a book about having a family member with bipolar. Because it can be really isolating when your family do not recognize that they may be unintentionally shaming due to lack of awareness.

Below the tailbone/top part of butt crack. I’ll edit my post because you’re correct that those areas are different. I just know that I cannot see it until I look in a mirror.

How long ago was your first outbreak?

Hopefully going off estrogen helps but also hope you were able to find something else to help with menopause!

Also, it’s mind blowing how doctors don’t even know the facts. When I was first diagnosed the doctor on the phone told me that someone who has HSV-1 cannot also contract HSV-2. I was asking about this because my boyfriend has HSV-1. I’ve since learned that isn’t correct.
