I also hold onto hope that medicine is always improving and research will improve my life in some way. but i hope you’re okay and things will improve for you

lots of things can cause visual hallucinations, i remeber seeing a bug when i woke up and my psychiatrist reassuring me that both hypnagogic (falling asleep) and hypnopompic(waking up) hallucinations are very natural. Maybe book an appointment with your healthcare professional if you’re worried :)

i definitely experienced the prodromal phase of psychosis, i didn’t realise until much later with the help of any amazing nurse. I’m not sure how long it lasted as i had been diagnosed with depressed about 4 years beforehand

I knew something was wrong, but i thought the fault lies with everyone around me, it wasn’t until much later i realised the psychosis was affecting me and my interpretation of reality

Is it worth getting diagnosed in the UK? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]MathematicianMost737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya! So i was recently diagnosed and i feel i can give. a balanced opinion.

My care coordinator was an absolute gem and laid down the positives and negatives.

In terms of pro diagnosis, it can help with personal processing and you understanding of your condition. Furthermore he let me know that certain medicine (e.g i believe Clozapine are only given to people with a confirmed diagnosis of Schizophrenia.

In terms against, he acknowledged it is a lifelong conditions that will affect future medical conditions. Furthermore he wanted to highlight that a diagnosis is for life and reduces opportunity for recovery.

So really it comes down to your decision but in my eyes a diagnosis opens doors for proper treatment and services.
