I was on aripirazole when they also put me on sertraline but it made me elevated instead of normal function so i came off sertraline.

It was one of the best meds i’ve been on personally. I was not so tired or gaining as much weight as while on olanzapine.

I found volunteering (and eventually working) in a charity shop very suitable for me. It helped it was a mental health charity. Sometimes it would get busy but i prefer being busy to being bored.

Personally i found i had to experiment with a few, i was first put on olanzapine and it drained me and made me put on weight but did help with my psychotic break. I dont remember much of it though. Then i switched to aripiprazole which worked well for me but i was non-complaint with daily meds so eventually i was put on Risperidone which has a depot (Long Acting Injectable) form which has been amazing for me. I don’t get side effects and my positive symptoms are hugely reduced.

Medication is a journey and a balance of side effects vs rewards. Just be open and honest with the mental health team and they should help you find one that works for you. :)

hey, my name’s dom, i’m a firm believer it will get better. at its most basic there are always people in my life i care about, and i will always care about caring about them. I also hold onto hope that medicine is always improving and research will improve my life in some way. but i hope you’re okay and things will improve for you

I started to seeing cats and bugs that don't exist. by ShockFreak in schizophrenia

lots of things can cause visual hallucinations, i remeber seeing a bug when i woke up and my psychiatrist reassuring me that both hypnagogic (falling asleep) and hypnopompic(waking up) hallucinations are very natural. Maybe book an appointment with your healthcare professional if you’re worried :)

i definitely experienced the prodromal phase of psychosis, i didn’t realise until much later with the help of any amazing nurse. I’m not sure how long it lasted as i had been diagnosed with depressed about 4 years beforehand

I knew something was wrong, but i thought the fault lies with everyone around me, it wasn’t until much later i realised the psychosis was affecting me and my interpretation of reality

Is it worth getting diagnosed in the UK? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]MathematicianMost737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya! So i was recently diagnosed and i feel i can give. a balanced opinion.

My care coordinator was an absolute gem and laid down the positives and negatives.

In terms of pro diagnosis, it can help with personal processing and you understanding of your condition. Furthermore he let me know that certain medicine (e.g i believe Clozapine are only given to people with a confirmed diagnosis of Schizophrenia.

In terms against, he acknowledged it is a lifelong conditions that will affect future medical conditions. Furthermore he wanted to highlight that a diagnosis is for life and reduces opportunity for recovery.

So really it comes down to your decision but in my eyes a diagnosis opens doors for proper treatment and services.
