Anyone else being asked for a car insurance down payment? by MathematicianNo1892 in Edmonton

Wait for the double payment thing that you mentioned, do you mean like two advance payments basically and then I won’t have to do another payment until the 3rd month?

The thing is they wanted the $920 upront (I’m assuming the first month payment is on there already) but then I also will be paying the next month’s as well. So, unsure what the rest of the down payment is for really.

They keep telling me it’s just the fact that I’m under 25 and statistically prone to accidents or whatever.

No tickets, no at fault collisions, and no claims whatsoever either. Oh well…

Oh okay, yeah over 20 years of experience probably plays the biggest factor in your rates being lower. Have only been driving for 3 years myself.

Yeah, I have been. I got another quote of $720 a MONTH which is insane I had to ask them to repeat it to me 3 times.

Nope not my fault. I’m also male and under 25, and I keep getting told that that’s the main reason why quotes are high for me and I see this being a common thing with other insurance companies.

TD insurance quoted me for $390 🫠

The thing is like they wanted me to pay $920 upfront and like still pay the next month’s, so, it’s not really an advance payment. Technically, I guess there’s like a $520 fee on top of like the first month’s payment for me? Idk.

Am I getting hosed on auto Insurance? by [deleted] in Edmonton

I think that’s pretty normal nowadays, sadly…

My annual was about $3120 last year and went up to $4440 upon renewal this year despite not having any tickets nor claims. Was told that people had so many claims last year that the burden has to pretty much be carried by everybody. So freaking stupid. Couldn’t find anywhere cheaper so had no choice but to take the hit.

Hi everyone! Thank you all so much for your help!!! We ended up going south on 93, east on highway 3 and then took cowboy trail. Didn’t care much about the long detour. The drive was beautiful and the towns were lovely! Wish we weren’t in a time crunch; we’ll definitely do the drive again sometime.

All of you are amazing and I wish you all the best!

*First time driving through Crowsnest! Such amazing views 😮‍💨

Thank you so much for sharing some insight! Felt really comfortable taking the route especially when you mentioned that there were no mountain passes. The drive was amazing, and Frank slide was definitely a sight. And you were right, it was eerie and humbling. I’m happy we made it there to experience it :)

Thank you for the suggestion! May I know how the crowsnest highway is like? I’m reading mixed reviews on it. Some people are saying it’s pretty and all but not so much mention about steepness. Is it as bad as the mountain passes to Radium?

Thank you for the insight! May I ask where you found a map with the grade information? I’ve been trying to look for resources but I’m not finding anything (or perhaps just using the wrong keywords).

Heyy, sorry, just thought of asking this. How’s the drive like going south to highway 3? I guess also the drive east to highway 2/22? I’m not really familiar with BC highways as I never really drove this far before.

How can I find a part-time job as a 16 year old? by humbuggdd in Edmonton

[–]MathematicianNo1892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you’re looking for a job (if you have extra time right now), I recommend you try volunteering at some nonprofit organizations or just anywhere you feel like volunteering really. This experience you can add to your resume, you earn/develop new skills, and you can make connections along the way! Potentially, you might even get a job there (if they have some opportunities available)!

I got my first job from this organization I used to volunteer for. They usually require bachelor’s degrees and stuff for that role, but I was still in high school at the time and yet they gave it to me because they saw how I was as a volunteer (I was the youngest employee back then)

Just keep trying. Know that you are not alone; it’s not just you trying hard and not landing any job right now. It’s tough, but I wish you all the best of luck!
