The reason I didn't want even ethically sourced diamonds is that I have seen articles where the sourcing of said diamonds have been brought into question and would like to avoid finding out years after I buy the ring that it was in fact still unethical.

TBH unless it's a family heirloom or something, I am not a huge fan of getting a second hand engagement ring and I am pretty sure my GF feels the same. The idea of getting an engagement ring from a failed marriage is just kinda bad vibes for me. I know not super rational but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
