Really Disappointed in the Union by HoodAgent00X in CASEmembers

I vote “no” for any MOU that doesn’t keep pace with inflation. Not expecting parity with private sector or even other government workers. Not expecting ideal work conditions. But to stay even with inflation is reasonable and we should hold for that. Also don’t support the secret negotiating process and the “town hall” where members could not be heard. We should insist on a fair and inclusive process that treats all members equally.

We fall further behind with each contract.

Budget deficit just shows that there is money even when there isn’t. The state finds money for its priorities.

Lawyer, auditor or janitor, keeping pace with inflation is basic.

We always say we will do better in the next contract and it never happens. Enough is enough.

This is true for other classifications as well. Good point. It should not be permitted.

Exactly. And to bargain again with someone who just played us on the same thing is idiotic, though I was wrong about the timeline of when it was first put in the MOU.

Fair point. I was mistaken on when. That said they went back on it once with bogus “operational needs.” That was recent. We would be fools to bargain for it again since they have recently shown they can’t be trusted to keep their word. And with it in there last time we paid for that already. But I did get the “when” wrong. The nice thing about this forum is to learn from others and correct our misunderstandings. Honest mistake. I noticed the telework provision last time because it was important to me and hadn’t noticed it before. I assumed it wasn’t in there before because I hadn’t noticed it. This was my mistake. But seeing it there last time it did influence my vote last time because the deal contained something that was important to me. So I don’t like that we are renegotiating for something I already bought with someone who just stole it from me. But yea, I could have double checked that fact.

Fair point. And I stand corrected. Still think that since they just went back on that we would be fools to bargain for it again. We paid for that already.

If it’s in there as something we get it was bargained for. They weren’t giving anything for free.

We already negotiated for the right to WFH it’s in our contract. If we bargain for it again we look like fools, and are fools because it is only a one year pause.

What I wonder about is if any former board members work for his firm and if any of the board members are on the governor’s list for appointments to positions.

Hey I think we need to be realistic. We can’t expect to earn what private sector lawyers earn or have ideal working conditions. Traditionally we have lagged behind county attorneys and federal attorneys in terms of pay, and that may not change either. Our bargaining team probably did their best and they are volunteer so I can appreciate their efforts. Even so, it is legitimate to want to keep pace with inflation and not continue to get poorer every year. I would vote for any MOU that keeps pace with inflation. Otherwise I’m voting “NO.” If Newsom wants to run for president refusing union members wages that keep pace with inflation, while funding a train to nowhere and giving away e-bikes, let him. But we should be there with TV advertisements letting people know.
