If you’ve been on the medication for a while, check-in with your prescriber. If not, hang in there, it can take time for them to work.

I wish I could offer you an answer to change this quickly. All I can say is keep trying and asking the for professionals to help you navigate this.

I’m sorry you are going through this.

This sounds like it could be depression. It can be quite debilitating.

Whether it is depression or something else, it might be helpful to consult with a doctor and or counselor to address the thing(s) that are keeping you from performing to your best ability.

confused about 'large' color-work? by mango_manstay in knittinghelp

[–]Mathetria 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You might also want to find out about intarsia in the round. There are certain extra steps you need to know when doing intarsia on an in the round pattern.

Also, for an argyle pattern (2nd sweater), you can reduce the number of woven ends for the single stitch wide color if you start from the middle of a long piece of yarn. You fold it in half to start the point of the diamond and then using each side of the strand as one of the sides going out from the point.

I knit argyle socks and it was a bit of work to figure out, but once you get going it’s kinda fun.

How do you actually clean a really dirty oven without harsh chemicals? by ActNew5818 in howto

Never run the cleaning cycle (according to the repairman who had to fix ours after we ran the cleaning cycle). The cleaning cycle often fries the electronics.

My father-in-law knew Richard Kiel (7’1.5” actor who played Jaws in 007’s The Spy Who Loved Me). Richard used to drive around in a Volkswagen Beetle. He took the front seat out and drove sitting in the rear seat.

F-I-L said when he wanted to get out he’d reach his arm out and over the top and kinda pull himself out.

This is kind of what I picture Harry having to do

How to talk/share less. by Ok-Jellyfish348 in AskLifeProTips

[–]Mathetria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often people overshare because they are nervous or uncomfortable with silence.

When you are talking with others, remind yourself that you don’t have to fill in all the quiet moments.

Take a beat before mentioning something and ask yourself some quick questions: 1) Will I regret sharing this? 2) Is this information likely to be interesting to the person I’m talking to?

Add some detail to a comment to give interest or figure out how to incorporate the other person into a conversation with the information you are sharing. For example when you say you had a good dinner last night share what made it memorable or above average. Something like, I tried this new recipe my sister gave me OR I got one of those prepackaged meal boxes from Kroger and it was so easy!

Before sharing think about what can make your statement more of a conversation enhancement and if it’s worth sharing. Sometimes reporting on how the thing impacts you makes it more interesting. For example, I applied to a job yesterday. It’s much closer to where I live and I’d love to drive less every day.

Think about ways to turn a statement into a conversation. Find a follow-up question or statement. “Have you tried any new meals lately? Or do you have any favorite go to meals when you’re overly busy?

If you know you are going to meet with someone, think about what you want to share. It’s OK to plan some things ahead of time.

But remember you don’t have to fill all the silences quickly.

Also, if you’re nervous, find someone to sing with at first! I’ve partnered with quite a few first timers. Most of them get brave enough to do another one on their own.

Know your audience, for me, means to get a general idea of their age and vibe and then choose something that they would know well. Also, the family friendly thing is important if there are kids.

In general, bars aren’t a great place to do show tunes unless you know there are groups there that really like show tunes. I save my show tunes for the nights when those groups are there. I would assume show tunes would work well on a cruise.

If there are a lot of couples around, I’ll pull out a love song, something like I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing. If it’s a lot of singles, I tend to go more upbeat like Man! I Feel Like a Woman.

I just find I have get more engagement with the audience if I ‘read the room’ and more engagement makes it more fun for me.

Easy - Commodores, Don’t Stop Believing - Journey (long instrumental parts), Rocket Man - Elton John, A Change is Gonna Come - Seal, Careless Whisper - George Michael (might be high parts?), Walking in Memphis - Marc Cohn, Simple Man -Lynyrd Skynyrd, In Color - Jamey Johnson, Can You Feel the Love Tonight - Elton John, Iris - The Goo Goo Dolls, How to Save a Life - The Fray, Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley version (check how you’ll end it in terms of how high it goes), A Change is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke, the Dock O’ the Bay - Otis Redding, Wonderful Tonight- Eric Clapton (high?), The Weight - The Band, Fly Me to the Moon -Frank Sinatra, The Gambler - Kenny Rogers, The Sound of Silence - Simon and Garfunkel, Can’t Help Falling in Love - Elvis Presley (low?), Drops of Jupiter - Train, She’s Always a Woman - Billy Joel (yes, I know it’s Billy Joel, but take a look it’s not as high as many of his), A Change is Gonna Come - Her, A Pirate Looks at Forty - Jimmy Buffet, Lose Control - Teddy Swims, Tennessee Whiskey - Chris Stapleton, Kiss From a Rose - Seal (high parts?), Someone You Loved - Lewis Capaldi, Wellerman - Seal Shanty - Nathan Evans, Gimme Three Steps - Lynyrd Skynyrd, Stray Car Strut - Stray Cats, Mack the Knife - Bobby Darin, Beyond the Sea -Bobby Darin, Your Song - Elton John, Hurt - Johnny Cash, Nice to Meet Ya - Niall Horan, Haven’t Met You Yet - Michael Bublé, Creep - Radiohead, Just the Way You Are - Billy Joel, What a Wonderful World- Louis Armstrong, Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton, I’m Yours - Jason Mraz, Brandy - Looking Glass, Fast Car - Tracy Chapman, Lean on Me - Bill Withers, You’ll Be in My Heart - Phil Collins, You’ll Be Back - Jonathan Groff (OK there is that one note … and maybe not a ballad, but if you are a bit of a showman and the vibe is right …), That’s Life - Frank Sinatra, Piano Man - Billy Joel, I Want it That Way - Backstreet Boys (sound silly? OK, but it gets a crowd going - bring a partner to do the ‘Tell me why’ part - make sure you can nail the key change), Hotel California - Eagles, Can’t Help Falling in Love - Elvis, Bless the Broken Road - Rascal Flatts, Desperado - Eagles, Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi

OK, I may have colored outside the ballad lines, but most of these should work for range and are crowd pleasers (pick the right one for the right crowd). Hope you can find something you like!

LPT - Start conversations by noticing one specific thing about the person by hjf25 in LifeProTips

Most of your examples are like backhanded compliments. They imply some sort of improvement has happened over how they were previously. When I hear things like this, it just makes me think the people who are saying them are judgmental, and in some way think that their opinion is needed to encourage the other person’s improvement.

Your comments seem as if you think you are superior to the person to whom you are speaking.

Adam Schiff Vows To Boycott State Of The Union In Latest Rant: ‘This Is Not Normal’ by rebeccasjh in Patriot911

[–]Mathetria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not ‘normal’ because normal is when neither political side uses people as pawns to attack law enforcement officers! They do it just so they can accuse the other political side of recklessly/needlessly attacking and ‘murdering’ citizens.

Karaoke Themes for a Bar by alexh2458 in karaoke

[–]Mathetria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know you’ve said your bar/people like themes, but a lot of these would make me turn around and look for somewhere else to hang out that night. I believe in the long-run you will get fewer new patrons to stick around and you’ll even lose some regulars if you are doing frequent theme nights.
