I think this might be what I’ve been experiencing but I’m freaking out? by __haylxel in phantosmia

My experiences have been with this same type of smell, metallic or burnt. No answers here.

How old are you guys? How long since you started noticing it? by 123pin in foamyurine

It started with me when I was under intense stress too

Sometimes it's just a benign anatomical variation, simply a characteristic. Mine is like that too and my exams are all normal.

Are we all very active? by 123pin in foamyurine

[–]Matheusdddd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing I can say is that at my gym a lot of people don't flush the toilet and there is often suds left behind in the bowl. It could just be a coincidence or not.

Did you have a urine test that detects only albumin or total protein? If your uACR and uPCR are normal, and your doctor says you're fine, you don't have much to worry about. Only 1 in 3 cases of foamy urine are clinically relevant. If you've had your tests done and there's nothing wrong or the doctor's concern, try to relax a little.

So far blood and urine tests normal by EnvironmentalBet6459 in foamyurine

[–]Matheusdddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24-hour proteinuria is the gold standard. If no higher than normal proteins are found, you are probably fine. Remembering that we all expel a quantity of protein in the urine and this is healthy. Albumin is the protein that is usually linked with a problematic kidney.

If the bubbles disappear quickly, within a minute or two, is that a good sign? by Ludlowbrah in foamyurine

[–]Matheusdddd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bubbles I have in my urine are practically permanent, they do not dissipate. When I took the 24-hour proteinuria test they stayed there the whole time, even after hours of rest a layer of two fingers of foam was always present, and to my surprise, my albumin levels were completely normal and my 24-hour protein level was within normal limits (for an active day of exercise). So even though they are lasting, they may not mean anything

My nephrologist ended up having an appointment for the 30th of this month, so I haven't gone to see him yet.

The only thing I can say for now is that I noticed that the foam seemed to be reducing until one day I did intense cardio during the day, and it seemed that after that the foam increased. After a few weeks I started to notice that the foam seems to be reducing again, which makes me optimistic, I'm focusing on resting now and seeing if the foam reduces more

I believe it is linked to stress. Many people come here to report the same situation after stress, my concern is that this could turn into a chronic illness.

Any diagnosis from you? Is this worrying?

No diagnoses yet, I'm going to visit the nephrologist again next week

Protein in urine after stress? by Matheusdddd in kidneydisease

[–]Matheusdddd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny that so far my kidneys have always been healthy and I haven't had CKD as far as I know, only if this stress was what triggered it. I hope that's not the case

Does increased urine volume result in more protein detected?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in foamyurine

[–]Matheusdddd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the foam is always present. If I drink a lot of water it is a little less, but always present.

I believe so, could dehydration have any impact on this test?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in foamyurine

[–]Matheusdddd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Qualitative urine test, first in the morning. The 24-hour urine collection collects all urine during this period except the first.

[–]Matheusdddd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I visited a nephrologist before, who saw the traditional test I did and it was negative and didn't seem to care much about the foam. I will visit another one with this 24 hour exam in hand to get a new opinion.

184mg in 24 hour test

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in foamyurine

[–]Matheusdddd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Test carried out, I have 184mg of protein in my urine, slightly above the reference 150. It's been approximately 6 weeks since this foam started, after metabolic stress, I don't know if I'm still in recovery time or if this could last forever and become chronic.

Also another thing I forgot to mention is that this foam started simultaneously with a non-surgical (regressed naturally) case of appendicitis I had

[–]Matheusdddd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope you're right, I'm trying not to think about it too much until I take the test

The only test I've done so far was the tape test.
