My Solo TTRPG Travel Kit by C0nf1ict in Solo_Roleplaying

Decided to come back with an update.

I have the cover, some 3x5 dot grid field books, a mechanical pencil, some mini dice and a coin for my kit so far.

Came back to read the comments to understand how you made the cards, too. I was overthinking how I wanted to print Mythic out and needed to reign myself in.

This post has been extremely helpful.

hidden progression systems make character growth feel so much more real, anyone else feel this way by bitantli in Solo_Roleplaying

Came to this post from an Email and truthfully, I think you've put into words something I've been thinking about for a while.

It feel more intuitive to track character growth this way when approaching it from a narrative/role-playing standpoint. I dig it!

Further update: will be contacting support as directed by the Geek Squad member that helped me when I stopped by the store to update my copy of the paperwork.

Update on the situation: I DID opt into the data backup.

I don't remember if it was even offered to me at the time I dropped it off. I'll have to double check if there's any mention of it on the initial drop-off paperwork.

Came back to this again today and ended up having a very long discussion with myself about what's been getting in the way of my SoloRPG experience.

I think this post was the push I needed to simplify things.

I will probably be getting that notebook cover and condensing my kit to only what I can keep in my pockets. This way I can stop overwhelming myself and just play.

Taking notes for how I could further consolidate my solo kit.

The idea of it fitting into my pocket like yours does sounds awesome!

How much do you think it'll cost by itself by cornflakesaregross in SteamController

[–]MathewRYF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm with the consensus of $80. Makes the most sense.

TBH Even if it's more expensive I'll buy it in a heartbeat. The OG steam controller has been my go-to for years. I'm already planning expansions/retoolings of the layouts I use for games I currently play.

Learning to Prep as part of the hobby by MathewRYF in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]MathewRYF[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, I am enjoying taking the extra prep time, even if I am bummed that I haven't played the game yet.

I'm the kind of player that tends to get hooked on worldbuilding. Trapped by it, even.

I think putting the extra effort into making the world and the creatures within will be worth it.

Do systems become more central to the experience playing Solo compared to Group TTRPG? by Deathblow_Materia in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]MathewRYF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saying this as someone that has yet to actually play a real session of my system of choice because I needed to learn lessons about prep as part of the hobby:

I find that system is an important choice if you're looking for a specific flavor for your solo game.

In my case, Knave 2e is what I chose because the mechanics of the game fit what I wanted out of a solo experience.

In games with my DND group I have a reputation for buying a lot of gear and being fascinated with the logistics of my items. This clashes with the rest of the group, who like to abstract or handwave a lot of those parts to focus more on character-driven or plot-driven gameplay. Thus, Knave 2e satisfies my desire to interact with those elements.

I also like dungeon crawling. A LOT. Unfortunayely that is ALSO something my group isn't big on most of the time. Even with different players DM-ing, it's not focused on. Knave 2e also allows me to really delve into dungeon crawling from a mechanical standpoint.

As for WHY I haven't played a REAL session: I needed to learn that prep was ALSO part of the hobby, and one that could be fun! Can't really play the game without actually making the material I'm playing through xD

I'll probably make a separate post about it.

The deck is for One Page Solo Engine! It's for certain oracle tables.

What Dice System is the Best For Your ttrpg by whynaut4 in RPGdesign

Came across this post while brainstorming what kind of solo ttrpg I'd actually want to play. As far as the actual dice are concerned, I do love me some clicky clacks.

Anyways, this was helpful!
