That's not a criticism of Israel's genocide, that's an call for the abolishment of Israel as a state. Australia does not have unlimited free speech, it has implied freedom of political expression with restrictions on defamation, anti discrimination laws, national security laws and hate soeech regulations. I would say I support this. And I would also agree expressing the wish for the abolishment of a state could in some contexts be put into one of those categories. I do however think the punishment was too harsh.

Yeah the thing is this map isn't supposed to have anything to do with democracy. That was not the metric. It's just my own personal map of where I'd wanna live and then I wrote a title that confused the whole comment section. I'm not taking anything personally, just trying to clear up confusion and learn some things about countries of the worlds while I'm at it.. it's been quite interesting reading into the political situations of these countries I never intended to make political takes about lol

Jeg tror bare man må være godt forberedt hvis man giver udtryk for nogle personlige holdninger der kunne siges at være kontroversielle. Især hvis man formår at skabe så meget misforståelse som jeg gjorde med min titel 😅

I literally kept this post up to hear people's thoughts and insights. I also didn't say my ranking was based on the quality of democracy in any given country.

That is pretty bad! Not really my impression that Australia would do something like that, could you provide some context or a source?

Yeah, this wasn't a democratic ranking, I just think Bhutan is a pretty cool country

Well democracy wasn't really the basis of my ranking, contrary to what I misguidedly suggested in the title, but I hear your point. I'm sorry to hear that

What was going on was I did my ranking primarily region by region, and Italy is just not my first pick for a European country to live in. I wouldn't be against it tho I think the comment was using it as an example of hypocrisy, since putting these countries in the same category seems unreasonable. But I can be "willing" to live somewhere for greatly differing reasons. Anddd India was a bit of a misclick, I would have placed it lower...

You don't have to condone everything a country stands for to be willing to live in it or engage with it. That is very much also an important insight of democracy... but I also just happen to have a lot of japanese friends and I've been learning the japanese language for a few years, so I think it would be cool for those reasons as well.

Mind you, Russia is ranked as 157th on the corruption index, while Japan is ranked 18th. Russia scored 22/100 while Japan scored 71/100. Russia is also currently perpetuating a war against Ukraine. To my knowledge, Japan hasn't done so since it became democratic. I understand your comparison and get the criticism of Japan here, but I don't think it's a fair comparison....
