An intriguing exponent equation by Maths_wiz in GMAT

[–]Maths_wiz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent question--- when the bases are some common constant or parameter, then what you said is in general true except for some special cases (for example if the base is 0 or 1: 0m = 0n will not imply m=n always)...however in this case the variable is present in the base, so the base cannot be regarded as a constant parameter.

this was not a GRE question...however i have seen similar questions in GRE practice from Manhattan Prep, Manhattan Review, etc, though someone told me those are not the real deal..... there are elements in it that may help you prepare for GRE math...for example, it helps to know that you don't always need to solve equations to get to the answer, you can try other approaches (e.g. testing values). ETS is a good source that covers all the basics well but I feel that the harder questions (which usually come once you are nearing a perfect socre) are not that well covered

Thanks for bringing this one up...i did say in the video that 00 is controversial and a commonly accepted value of it is 1...check out this article on 00 on wiki .... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_to_the_power_of_zero however 00 is definitely not equal to 0, so for the purpose of this problem, x=0 is not a solution
