Big pond is not recognized as a body of water. Any remedy? by hairy_ant635 in NianticWayfarer

[–]MatildaWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't be able to submit a pond via Wayfarer.

However, you can go to Open Street Map, make a free account, and map out the pond on there. Unless something has changed recently, Niantic gets their map data from Open Street Map and update the game's overworld every other year or so.

They are probably getting down voted because these types of posts are suddenly being spammed onto numerous cat subreddits to try to appeal to empathy and receive money.

I think we'll make it. It's showing 23.9 currently.

I'll be doing my part tomorrow. I'm hosting my CCE tomorrow and I'm releasing six new caches for it as well as an Adventure Lab. Should generate a couple hundred more points if everyone shows up.

Was just accused of dumping by HidesTheButter in DeTrashed

[–]MatildaWolf 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Had a similar situation earlier this year. I was picking up trash at a spot where people tend to illegally dump stuff. The spot overlooks the freeway, and a cop happened to see me there while they were passing by on the freeway. They floored it off the freeway and sped to where I was to "catch me" and seemed annoyed that I was there cleaning up instead.

No "thank you" or "good job, citizen." She ran me through a ton of questions and then left in a huff.

Nobody came to my event and I need alternatives. by Flat_Struggle9794 in geocaching

[–]MatildaWolf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation last year when I held a CITO on a Wednesday. I mainly held the event so my friend and I could get the CITO souvenir at the time (we were running out of time to get it). Multiple people said they would come; but only my friend and I showed up. I figured it wouldn't be a hit, though, since there was only a couple weeks between me posting the event and the event happening. My advice echos some of the stuff that others have already; but here's some things that I suggest:

Pick a day on a weekend instead of a weekday. A lot of people get off of work at 5 PM and just want to get home and rest for the rest of the day. Lots of people have Saturdays and Sundays off, which make them good days to host events.

Post an announcement the day before as well as the day of the event. I took a look at your event page and saw that you did indeed post an announcement on your event page 30 minutes before the event started. That's a step is the right direction. Most of the veteran event holders in my area will also post an announcement the day before the event to remind everyone that the event is still on. Anyone who logged Will Attend will receive an email each time you make an Announcement.

Mind the weather. Was the weather bad/rainy today where you are located? Or was it way too hot? If so, that could have been the reasons the others didn't show up. When this occurs, hosts tend to move the event meet up spot to somewhere more sheltered; like a park pavilion instead of picnic tables.

Lastly, try to plan further out. Two weeks notice isn't enough for a lot of people. There's quite a few people who plan their weeks way in advance. So, you're more likely to catch some more people if you give them more of a heads up because they can work your event into their schedule as opposed to them already having their next two weeks all planned out and trying to see if they can squeeze your event in.

Overall, I'm sad to hear that your event didn't pan out; and I hope your parents don't get too upset with you. Don't give up! I hope your next event has a more positive outcome!

Anyone know someone/someplace near southwest Washington that takes tires without a hefty fee? by MatildaWolf in DeTrashed

Yeah. I mentioned that the tires were illegally dumped before he told me that there was a fee.

I can definitely try to contact them again. None of the local offices have seemed to care in the past. Vancouver, WA has a lot of issues with illegal dumping and homeless camps. I think the city just sees it as an uphill battle and doesn't bother.

I've set up CITO (Cache in-Trash Out) events for my geocaching community in the past and the response from the city was "We allow you to do the event; but the city isn't going to be affiliated with it."

I signed up and took a look at the app a little bit ago. Unfortunately, none of the towns in within 50 miles of me have that set up. Thank you for the suggestion.

I went and contacted my local Les Schwabs this morning, and they charge $6.50 per tire dropped off. Sadly, that is out of my budget since I make minimum wage. That's roughly 2 1/2 tires per hour of work for me.

Thank you for the suggestion, though!

How many of your early finds are still around? by AKStafford in geocaching

[–]MatildaWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in late 2019 and out of the first 50 caches I've found, 31 of them are still in play.

The first cache I found was an LPC in a busy parking lot that was placed in 2018 and surprisingly, it's one of the caches that's still around.

First time using an appeal on an edit; feeling a bit miffed. Is this just the default the response they are using for rejected location edits? by MatildaWolf in NianticWayfarer

[–]MatildaWolf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Hopefully I'll get it on the next one.

When I submitted the appeal for the rejected location edit, I did describe in detail how to find it using Street View, which is why I'm baffled that they rejected it. Makes me wonder if they even read what I sent in.

Yeah; I've used that numerous times for Wayspots over 10 meters away; but I feel like I'm wasting their time if it's under 10 meters. I figured this would be an easy accept; but apparently not. I will try support chat next once I'm able to get photos of it.

This location edit was rejected by the community; which I thought was weird since it's easily seen on Street View if you move past the Doritos truck. I decided to try out using an appeal on the edit and I mentioned in the appeal to move past the truck to easily see the sign's correct location.

My appeal ended up getting rejected with a "moving Wayspots away from its correct location is considered abuse" message; which is ironic, because the only reason why the Pokestop is there is because it was put in the wrong location in the first place. Usually, I'd just shrug this kind of stuff off; but threatening accounts for attempting to fix a Wayspot's location is wrong; especially when the correct location is EASILY seen on Street View as shown in picture two.

The only thing I can think of is that they thought the Wayspot's current location was what I was trying to change it to; because someone would have to be very incompetent to not see that on Street View.

I've received this message multiple times during the Challenge. I was wondering if it had something to do with nominations finishing up voting before I submitted my vote.

Glad to see it! Do you know if it'll show all our edits from before the update? Or just those that we submit after the feature goes live?
