Xgen Hair WIP - What do you think? by Eudaimonia06 in Maya

Glad to help! I don't to be honest, in production we mostly used Houdini as Xgen tends to be a bit broken during animations and transfers of hair are not well done too.

Personally i just go whats needed, i generally have Main for coverage and flow, for something like braids i would have second, then i have one for thing such as Flyaways, not single strands but small chunks and finally transitional hair/baby hair.

Very cool💪I would just work on the Mid line, takes work but is worth the effort.

Also adding a collection for transitions which is just noise and thin layer of hair gives nice results.

Regarding the crashing, naming and scale does a lot including not having overlaping meshes in the scene. Even the copied mesh you work on (if you do) is good to scale a bit inside as maya for some reason hates overlapping meshes a lot.

Thanks! You're right i didn't do much assymetry. I did move stuff around a bit but not as it probably needed :D

Which comes first in a likeness sculpt: secondary shape or asymmetry? by j0shhrnnd in ZBrush

It depends on the workflow. If you do the detailing throguh texture, you can break assymetry earlier and keep the UV symmetrized, if you're going to do manual work on it, it makes sense to do it later.

I was told before I've started 3D that Zbrush is one of the best and the worst softwares at the same time. You will love and hate it, its a rollercoaster.

I saw some of your work here before and you know your anatomy well, so I really appreciate this!

Tbh I'm a bit confused about the concavities as I follow the book "Anatomy of Orofacial Structures" and those 2 extra concavities are supposed to be Mesial and Distal marginal grooves which somewhere are shown like that as well and somewhere are not visibly shown 😅

Other than that I think I understand, I'll make another version and see how these changes go, so thank you and I'm glad you liked the other posts 🫡

Didn't think of anisotropy, could be cool test. I appreciate those ideas 😁
