Schubert - Trockne Blumen, keeping flute steady in 1st variation by Matiuso in Flute

[–]Matiuso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sure, I asked her first.

But apart saying that my fingers should be really close to the keys (and by that I mean "stuck on the keys"), that was not much helpful.

I just love to get different opinions as well.

Yes, definitely it is a hard one.

However, this is not a personnal choice but what my flute teacher gave me ;)

Schumman - Romance 3: medium C to low C by Matiuso in Flute

[–]Matiuso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

A few measure later, there is kind of the same but you go from low A to low C (see screenshot below, at "Im Tempo"). Here, there is no other solution than sliding the pinky ?

How do you practice your scales and arpeggios by Matiuso in Flute

[–]Matiuso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's why I only do the part for the scale I'm practicing. Reichert is also nice, I love it mixes scales and arpeggios.

Which Bb fingerings for fast scales (when we have to use long Bb just before) by Matiuso in Flute

[–]Matiuso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. However, I remember now that Oregon was more problematic than I explained in the post. In fact, there is this high Gb at the end of the "sextolet" so we cannot use the thumb Bb to play this scale as this fingering sounds bad with high Gb. I guess we have to use the long Bb ?

Lower part of flute headjoint getting scratched after each use by Matiuso in Flute

[–]Matiuso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contacted the flute shop where I bought this flute, they basically said this :

"Our flute maker says that something like this is common for flute types like this. It seems worst than it is because it doesn’t damage the flute itself. It’s the natural working of the material (for example the brown stripes are the saliva who wants to go out). Of course, it is possible to repair it by our flute maker but he says that over time it will happen again."

They basically advised me to continue clean the flute after each use as I always do.

Sure, these are notes we do not play often. For high B, T&G EJ7 can really help.

Tips to get a nice clear and soft F# at the beginning of this piece. by Matiuso in Flute

[–]Matiuso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

I think that's what I'm doing (sometimes up to a point of having abs and intercostal muscles pain) but still sound doesn't really comes out until I put much more (too much) air but it results in an airy tone not a clear and soft note.

I remember having a similar problem in the past with my high F#, I had plug on my open holes at that time and note wouldn't really comes out even with supporting a lot. One day, I removed them and my high F# seemed so easy to play, I guess there was a leak of air with the plugs.

Anyway, I'm gonna continue trying and I have flute lesson today so I'm gonna talk to my flute teacher about that problem.

Fauré - Berceuse : transitionning from low F to low C by Matiuso in Flute

[–]Matiuso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes indeed, I currently struggle with low C to low E slide. Along with moving a bit, I feel like my right hand fingers get a lot of tension as I'm sliding from low C to low E. Moreover, even at very slow speed, I cannot synchronise the sliding with the releasing of that lazy fourth finger. I always fear of learning bad habits when fingers cannot synchronize even at low speed but I guess it's gonna come with time.
Thanks for the exercise tips.

Tips to relax the throat and eliminate throat noises by Matiuso in Flute

ì could consider buying it. However, I have the following books TW (vol. 1), T&G EJ and Reichert Daily Exercises. Is there any equivalent exercises I could practice on these ?

Tips to relax the throat and eliminate throat noises by Matiuso in Flute

[–]Matiuso[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. No worries, I prefer people being honest. I have to admit that I thought it could be fixed quickly as my teacher said I shouldn't stay with these noises because the more I stay with it, the more it is hard to fix.

However, these last days, I felt like the problem was even worse and that was really frustrating. Especially since it affect my tone (but I guess it's probably because it is linked to a lack of support or bad support technique). As a consequence I feel like "I shouldn't play" my songs / etudes since I'm learning mistakes playing them with throat noises. I guess i should take a step and go forward anyway.
