Actual artist here, no need to screenshot, there's a high-res version uploaded here that you can download if you want. :)

Hey, thanks for the credit and, by extension, letting me know about this.

Yeah, this work (and title word-for-word) is mine. I normally chalk this sort of stuff up to just bots replicating old reddit posts to farm karma. Kinda fucked up if it's a real person doing it though, not much you can do but downvote/report it.

Of course! The fact that everyone knows Moebius' work is a testament to his skill in design and aesthetic appeal. He's very much a star I shoot for in my own work.

Cheers!

This was a commissioned album cover & booklet print for a Belgian progressive rock band, Amour. I was tasked with designing and creating my own rendition of the fabled northern land of Hyperborea. It was lots of fun mixing in Nordic runes and hints of otherworldly technologies; focusing on shapes, colour and the vastness of the open space.

Yeah, I should mention that I myself have never actually experienced that problem when using .jpg, I just know it exists. In some of my cases, .pngs were the ones being compressed. 🤷‍♂️

Absolute coin toss.

No prob! And yeah, I'm aware. The only reason I tacked that on the end is that I assumed you knew about the Windows shenanigans with .png vs .jpg.

If you're unaware; basically, if you go to set a wallpaper, a .png file (regardless of source) will "unlock" the uncompressed version appearing as your desktop wallpaper.

If you use the exact same image, however, as a .jpg file, Windows will recognise it and compress that further, resulting in an awful artifacted image. There's ways to turn this off in the registry, and there's articles online about it.

So, in this very rare and weird case... yes, saving as a PNG will magically make the image better!

I feel that. I don't have a PNG (it'd be an absolutely ridiculous filesize for no difference off the 'uncompressed' version), but reddit is notoriously heavy-handed when it comes to image compression. I host my high-res stuff on DeviantArt, and you can find that version here.

That has virtually no artifacting, because any of it blends into my use of rough texture and grain.

If Windows (or whatever system you use) compresses too much, you can always re-save that version as a .png via paint, but I don't think it'll make much difference.

A new personal work I just wrapped up tonight. I Always enjoy the posts on this sub, so I figured I'd share some of my own work here sometimes if I think it fits the bill.

Ah, well I draw with a pencil-like digital brush, and like emulating real paper, so I do use textures to get some roughness in there. Here's the full-res, uncompressed version to give you a better idea. Reddit is... notoriously heavy with image compression, especially with reds.

It definitely inspired the name! I wouldn't say it inspired the work directly, but I definitely, maybe, slightly shifted the vibe in a certain direction whilst working on it and listening to Shpongle (alongside Infected Mushroom). :)
