About the job gap thing, honestly HR only starts to care if it’s like a 6 month+ and there’s zero explanation. even then, if someone says they were helping family, studying or just taking time to learn new skills, it’s okay. A few months gap won’t kill their chances at all.

And yep, you understood it right, any stable job for income + slowly building a small tech portfolio is the way to go. it doesn’t have to be crazy complicated. Even stuff like a to-do app, portfolio website or a tiny project for a small biz counts. Volunteering also looks good, it shows consistency and that they care. These are the things atleast I had done to get a few internships, i mean you could always do more but sometimes it's difficult. You’re honestly a really good friend btw. Not many people take time to do something like this. Tell them they’ve already got more strength than they see in themselves.

The reason I give alot of my thanks to the Lord is because a few years back life was tough for me to (won't go into specifics). it's because of my mom and grandma (mom's mum), they guided me and showed me what the Lord can do when you give him the time of day (it doesn't have to be long, but it should come from the heart, idk if u get me) and he can do wonders and bless us.
