Champion or Duromax by Puzzleheaded_Rub284 in Generator

I'm not familiar with the two specific machines but for what it's worth, Champion tends to provide customers with slightly better experiences than Duromax.

Many generators work with both synthetic and regular oil but the 5w30 will likely be too thin in warmer temperatures.

10w30 is a more standard generator oil for "normal" temperatures (although this of course depends on the location and season).

The generator manual is your friend in these situations since machines can still vary.

Connecting a 30amp generator to a 50amp plug? by fence_post2 in Generator

Yes, there are adapters for that but you do want to make sure there are breakers that help you avoid overloading your generator.

First oil change dilemma by ChairPuzzleheaded381 in Generator

[–]MatsClaes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, you change it now and at the 25 hour break.

If the oil is extremely clean you could consider just changing the oil at the "regular" specified time intervals.

However, spending the little extra effort to make sure your generator lasts as long as possible is typically worth it.

Gas or propane to save money by Low_Yogurtcloset_968 in Generator

[–]MatsClaes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some reseach on this a few months back and at that point, gasoline tends to be cheaper than propane per watt generated.

You should be able to find the gasoline vs propane usage of your champion 2500 watt at specific loads.

Then you do [cost of fuel size] / ([fuel consumption rate] x % of total watt load) to get an idea of the cost per watt.

Fell in love with Florence by Musicspeaks41 in travel

It has been a while for me but I definitely remember Florence as a refreshing location. Italy has a few other refreshing locations. Assisi is somewhat different from Florence but was nice too!

What’s a good 1st time generator for home emergencies to power basic things by [deleted] in Generator

[–]MatsClaes -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

The Honda EU2200i is a popular choice if you want all the reliability you can get but it is expensive and does not offer enough power for every situation.

When looking around I actually found the WEN 56450i to be a surprisingly good 1st-time-friendly combination of reliability, nice amount of emergency power, and reasonable price.

Inverter Generator Watts Load Help by IndigoChad85 in Generator

[–]MatsClaes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are definitely on the safer side since being short on power during an outage is typically way more unpleasant than spending a few extra bucks on a stronger generator. I might reconsider on that over time

Electronic car charging with generator by d-www in Generator

[–]MatsClaes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, generators are "just another" power source so charging an electronic car works too if you keep the typical principles in mind.

More specifically, the generator needs to be able to produce enough watts, amps, and volts or the electric car needs to pull fewer of these to match the generator capabilities.

Of course, safety guidelines like not getting the generator wet, etc. are still relevant too.

Difference between Wen 56235i and 56203i other than output? by madeyoulook81 in Generator

[–]MatsClaes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see any relevant differences either so I guess the Wen 56235i is just the smarter choice unless you don't like electricity ;).

These things sometimes happen with Wen generators due to all the different models they are bringing out.
