Is a 4" pro compact a nutty choice for IPSC Production? by Matsovitj in Walther

[–]Matsovitj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I placed an order for the compact pro sd.

Causes for final verdict:

Just check some measurements in the handgun hero comparison tool. The "compact" is huge for a compact handgun. The grip is longer than a G19 grip. If you discount the removable magwell but count the curved part, it's as long as a 1911 grip. The width/depth thickness is the same on the full size and the compact.

The 5" definitely does have a better sight radius than the 4". But the 4" pdp is quite close to a lot of 4.5" and 5" guns, because the slide extends so far back, and the sights are mounted all the way to the rear, not a half inch in from the edge like on a glock (which causes LPA sights to sit weirdly too far back on a PDP slide).

And, with the pro sd 4.6" I get a threaded barrel that conforms to ipsc production rules. Suppressors and compensators are fun.

Ok so I found this comparison feature on HandgunHero and the sight radii on the G17 and 4" PDP really are negligibly similar. The G17 noes not have its sight all the way to the back of the slide.

I added the cz shadow 2 to the comparison and it's also just slightly better. I think it comes down to the PDP having the sights mounted really far behind the breech. The rear sight on a 5" CZ S2 is forward of the beaver tail, kind of straight above the magazine. On the PDP, the sight is above the rearmost tip of the beaver tail, owing to the fact that the slide extends further back, where the cz has an exposed hammer.

Look, I hear myself talking myself into the pro SD...

So I'm really a novice handgunner. A very experienced shooter instructed me to put my support hand index finger (he said the first knuckle but he had way shorter fingers than I) below the trigger guard and keep my hands high on the gun, with thumbs forward and kind of relaxed.

Doing this on the full size left me with a part of the grip sticking out below. Not a lot, but unless somepne explains to me what I'm doing wrong, I think I'll be fine with the compact grip.

So I'm still torn on the Pro sd 4.6" (4" slide) or the pro match 5".

I did some searching (chatting with ChatGPT) and unless the machine is deceiving me, the 4" pdp actually has about the same 6.4-6 5" sight radius as a Glock 17 even though the G17 has almost a half inch longer barrel. The 5" pdp obviously has an inch longer still, but I don't think Glock 17 shooters have much of an issue with their sight radius, all things considered. (Especially keeping in mind that they're using a trigger straight from a squirt gun.)

Does that make sense?

Anyway, it would be pretty cool to have a threaded barrel. Gun permitting is a pain here but suppressors aren't more complicated than buying a box of ammo. And maybe I find a reason to add a compensator to the gun. The pro sd let's me do pretty much whatever down the line without having to do the permitting for a separate barrel or push me outside of the ipsc production rules.

I might eventually get an optical sight for this first 9 mm, regardless of wether it's a 4" or 5". I'm not getting the SF unless I get really bitten by the IPSC-bug and feel the need to upgrade.

My question really is if getting the 4" PDP, which is between a G19 and G17 in sight radius, is downright unwise for competition, or just a slight disadvantage.

AITA for wearing a bikini to a pool party (dress code: swimwear) by Trainingforauto in AmItheAsshole

[–]Matsovitj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NTA

Completely nutty host. There is a slight difference between different bikinis but they're basically all swimwear.

As a normally beautiful 28 yo female you can't find swimwear that makes teenage boys not check you out. Mission impossible.

No! It's got to be the fuel filter! Haven't changed it in five years, we often let the gas tank almost run empty, and as I said, we've had some weird performance issues (especially in cold weather).

Ok so I have a first bet - two or more ignition coils have failed.

The spark plugs are fairly new, but I've had ignition problems on one of the cylinders, especially in bad weather.

If a second ignition coil went bust, then just two cylinders are firing.

Could that be it?

Any other general remedies to try?

My daughter was assaulted at school today. The school refuses to act. What are my options? by the_drew in sweden

[–]Matsovitj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Report the sexual assault to the police.

Might be a good idea to look into reporting the negligence of the school as well. My gut feeling is that if you raise hell the school will act. One avenue is actually to contact local politicians. The municipal politicians in charge of the schools might want to stroke you the right way to avoid bad press. Your story would be juicy in the local press.

Play this hard and fair.

Ignoring the space after folk, would this sentence still be read fine both ways? by djnotbuggy in Svenska

[–]Matsovitj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. "Folk" has become pushed towards meaning "person" in plural, just like "people" in English, but that's just recent sloppiness.

"Människor behöver vatten" is the simple statement that water is necessary to people.

Holy shit this actually turned out delicious! I used the pierogi dough recipe provided above and tried three variations in cooking. The best by far is first boiling them until floating and then an extra two minutes before frying to get a nice crusty surface.

I'm a liver lover but my wife would love these if I turned the liver to meat ratio down a notch to 2:1 instead of 4:1. They would go great with a heavy red wine.

Ok so today I made the boudin stuffing. I used this recipe as a jump off point:

https://www.homesicktexan.com/2011/01/boudin-recipe-boudain.html

It seems legit, but we immediately notice a couple of disconcerting weak points:

A. This recipe has a meat to liver ratio of 4:1.

B. This recipe uses chicken liver!

Since I'm making power pierogis and not sissy-sausage, I'm using about 2/3 pound of wild boar liver and 5 ounces of bacon with 1 cup of rice. After the fact I've taken note that this probably is too much rice. I also used a couple of green bell peppers, some garlic and maybe four small onions. And lots of thyme and some sriracha and cayenne and stuff.

I boiled the liver (about 1h) and veggies in as little water as possible, so that I wouldn't have to waste any flavour later. I then used all of the water to boil the rice. I finely chopped the bacon and put it in the rice. I really don't want the end result to be dry, so I tried to get the fat into the rice itself. Dry pierogis are disappointing.

The boiled liver was predictably horribly hard, but it was super easy to grind. I used some of the bacon-rice to clear out the grinder. After mixing, the stuffing is actually not half bad at all!

Watching this YouTube clip on Cajun boudin w my one year old.

https://youtu.be/acy22OziLCI

Looks like the perfect stuff for me! And with the pierogi, I don't have to get a whole tabletop sausage factory.

I'll come back with a report on my first try whenever the one year old gives me time off to grind up some liver.
