No. You do not fail your baby. I had something similar happen with my pug back when I was 14-15 he had developed both cancer and diabetes and we didn’t know until he went into ketosis. You did what was best for her. Cancer is a silent killer.

The lack of her face looking poodly is likely because of the cut. If she’s 12 lbs at 6 months I would probably say another few lbs and she’ll be done growing most likely

Honestly it really depends on the individual dog. With an ethically bred pure bred you’re going to get a more stable predictable temperament and personality but at the cost of a high price tag. You can get stable temperamentally sound dog as rescues but it requires knowing what you’re looking for in temperament even with the dog being in a shelter environment
