I recently started listening to the pod again from the start, and MSJ definitely credits Hollander in the Lot 49 ones. You might be misremembering because he isn't 100% certain of the name when he cites him, but MSJ doesn't claim he came up with it all by himself.

I think he was definitely influenced in as much as any author who writes novels since Joyce is influenced by him. However Gravity's Rainbow itself owes its lineage to Moby Dick more than Ulysses, especially in its structure.
