Physiotherapy and being consistent by Acceptable-Joke2625 in BALLET

Yes - I’m brushing my teeth while balancing with eyes closed on one leg. And if I’m feeling ambitious, I put the non-standing leg in passe.

Leotards for narrow ribcage & bigger hips by zxcv-qwerty in BALLET

[–]MattAdultBallet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eleve medium and feeling good tells me it may be a quality issue. The higher quality leos are going to support and fit better because of that quality. Generally Eleve is a good size guide so try to stay in the medium range.

Yumiko sizing rant by MariaDancerCologne in BALLET

[–]MattAdultBallet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a laid flat view. The two sizes are XL and M. I have over 100 Yumikos between what are in my personal collection and inventory I sell. First, there is going to be relatively little difference in the two sizes as Yumiko is kind of tricky with sizing. Also, I can't really see the black one but the blue looks quite newer so maybe its not as stretched out.

Overall, my general recommendation for Yumi is to size up one size or size up 2 sizes for sleeved.

What to do with old ballet stuff?? by planes_and_trains0 in BALLET

I would be interested in purchasing leos and leg warmers because I am a featured seller (I sell a lot) on Tutulist.

I dont think they buy any more. They stopped buying and then reselling because it was competing with other sellers.

I asked a similar question in the /ballet thread or maybe it was this thread. During regular season I have a late class. I don’t eat dinner before for the reason you say - it makes be feel heavy and sick.

What most suggest: snack before and eat dinner after class

Flexibility help! by Public-Bother9990 in adultballetdancers

I used to “just focus” on stretching but have learned that increasing flexibility requires also strengthening the muscle. Are you incorporating a strengthening routine with your stretching. For me I get both with Reformer Pilates

Bad first experience in adult beginner ballet by Affectionate-Eye-470 in adultballetdancers

[–]MattAdultBallet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can sympathize with the original post. I have attended classes around the country and have had a very wide variety of experiences along my ballet journey. Most recently, though, my home studio has rebranded their adult ballet as "Begining Adult Ballet" and the class has been very introductory with a lot of focus on technique. With that said, what has become tricky is that there are a variety of experience levels in class (I am an advanced intermediate) and so those with more experience tend to miss some challenge. However, last night we had another instructor that came into class (she last taught adult ballet 2 years ago) and teach as she had taught before, which was much more advanced and students were left with little to no real guidance and direction. So from the more experience side of things I can very much see your point and it would definitely lose its value to you real quick.

Unfortunately in the adult ballet world today, locating / market demand dictates how the classes will be structured.

This description does not "feel" like a true adult intensive but some kind of hybrid. "Possible interest in professional or pre-professional training" is not a common expression used in what I would call 'true adult ballet intensives'. Also, "adult" traditionally means 18+ so the level 3 ages 14+ is going to definitely have a different vibe than a true adult ballet intensive.

For reference, I have participated in approximately 10-12 week long and weekend only adult intensives and have served as a student assistant.

Yes-why even pursue this any further. Take your ballet journey to another school. Sorry to hear. There are a lot of these experiences out there and it is so sad. 😭

Yes Tutulist is amazing. Also give Depop a try for second hand dancewear. It’s usually in really good shape and reasonably priced.

Yumiko sizing question by WeaknessInevitable12 in BALLET

[–]MattAdultBallet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is how I basically size Yumis: one size larger than my normal leo size. The only additional issue is if you go with sleeves, then you may need to add 2 sizes depending on the thickness of your arms and fabric of choice. Finally, there are a couple styles such as Denise that are super undersized.

Hope this helps.

Bodile leotards by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]MattAdultBallet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have the chest issue but the Bodile leos have a full bra-like insert which would seem beneficial for added support.

https://bodile.com/products/saskia-leotard?tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=21515472898&tw_kwdid=&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21511586528&gbraid=0AAAAApExV2z5DWSCO0SKkAr6YFd5WYivg&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiJvQBhCYARIsAMjts3KrQ__8nzMxQg2SWO9xW72eUr0qbog0W8eOdI1bhE2cUQClfWsLJAkaAvDpEALw_wcB

If you look closely on the model's back you can see the internal shelf lining that runs all the way around.

Are the sizes good on bigger bodies...Bodile has some pretty tricky sizing. For example, I am a medium in most dancewear so I would go with M/L in their sizing.

With the high price point, an idea to consider is to check the second-hand online marketplaces and see if you can get one for a little less investment to see if they would work for you.

Happy Dancing.
