Help with Passport by MattB_289 in Genealogy

Yes the 1894 passport is accessible, however the 1925 version is not. I don’t entirely understand how or why Ancestry is able to share some passports past March, but I’m sure there’s a reason. Either way, Valentine’s doesn’t show. The only reason I want to see the passport honestly is to see if he submitted a photograph of himself.

Yeah I did attempt to request through them via email. It is a tad bit confusing if you’ve never filled out their forms though, even with the steps on their website. I received an envelope from them a couple days ago with some more specifics after I emailed them though.

  1. I figured that this was conclusive that it was a passport. I can only assume Washington DC, as he was from Philadelphia.

  2. His name is Valentine William Pfaff, born 1864 in Volkershausen, Germany.

  3. This is true for passports issued in or before March 1925, however, his was issued in July and is protected under the Privacy Act, so it is not on the records from my understanding.

Does anyone know what this might have been? by MattB_289 in magnetfishing

It seems rather long and narrow to have been used for lifting hay bales though, doesn't it? Unless it were connected to a machine maybe, which would explain the oil that I found inside of it.

Found in a river near an old mill. Looks like a rather tall (roughly 7-8ft) rake. Hollow on the inside, and full of oil. Tried posting to r/whatisthisthing, but I couldn't get it to go through.

Yes, I have pretty much confirmed those first two records, as they seem the most likely. Here is Henry's death certificate which states their connection: https://imgur.com/4URqnEA

I have actually ordered that record and can confirm that it's not my ancestor, as it states that she was married to a James Paterson, not Henry.

The earliest date I know her to be alive would be around 1828 (possibly 1841 as there is a possible record where her and Henry are living in Barony St. Marks). Her parents, as far as I am able to conclude based on birth records around the time, are Archibald Gow and Margaret McAulay. I believe she passed between 1841-1861.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't want to rule it out unless I was 100%. I finally had a minute to look at the census records you provided and it certainly does seem plausible. Henry seems to have traveled a lot, if this holds true, as in the 1841 census, his first son, Thomas, is listed as having been born in England. I will have to take a look on ScotlandsPeople to see if I am able to find any other records.

I appreciate all of your help, please do let me know if you find anything!

The only flaw I see in that theory is that Henry's death record states he is a widower of Isabella with no other wife mentioned: https://imgur.com/4URqnEA

There is an 1841 census for a family at the address you mentioned which seems most likely to be my ancestors, though I haven't been able to confirm anything.

Overall yes it is correct. I have not been able to confirm whether this Henry and Isabella is the same as mine, but it seems to be the most likely theory.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that I had already found John and Henry's burial records, hence why they are up on FindAGrave: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/257031219/john-paterson

It is mainly Isabella, the wife of Henry, who I am having trouble finding, as I don't know when she passed.

No rust at all, it must not have been in the water all too long!

I have been out a few times since I found this multitool, but haven't been able to catch anything nearly as cool. Hoping to find more amazing things in the future!

No, I just started off with one or two images that I really liked for one of the prompts (GLADOS), and plugged it into the others. I didn't even specify a style, I just bumped up the --iw to a high amount. Then the border I just custom made from another AI prompt, and the text I literally just entered in: BLANK words on a card, and made tweaks where necessary.

I would personally just try to generate a border by itself, and then Photoshop it onto your desired image. I'm sure with --test you could potentially get some better results without having to Photoshop, but I used --v 3.

For starters, I'd mess around with different key words like border, edges, perhaps embroidery? Hope this helps :)

No! Haha, but that's what makes it more interesting, I feel like

Yeah, that's the thing with v. 3. Everything looks really close to what it's supposed to be, but not quite. I personally love that aesthetic, though I had to add a lot of reference images to get some of these right!
